Happy birthday to x-ray #crystallographer Dorothy Mary Crowfoot Hodgkin (née Crowfoot, 1910-1994), Nobel laureate in #chemistry for her models of biomolecules like penicillin, vitamin B12 & insulin.

I brought a couple of complaints to my HR recently & damn, I'm happy. They confirmed what I thought (yes, this looks an awful lot like disability discrimination) & are investigating. Fingers crossed folks. HR is not always the friend of disabled folks in #HigherEd so I had to share the news.
Also, to all of my disabled friends in academia, document the heck out of everything.

I'm very pleased that the Royal Society's diversity team was keen to do this article. I want to maximize the impact of my privilege by acting visibly as a disabled scientist.

I have to compartmentalize. I have to make things black and white. I have to reduce arguments down to the ultimate question.
I have to do all of these things because my brain is a chaotic tangle of interconnections and overlapping thoughts.
In order to sort, I need to first simplify.

Accommodations are hardly ever the solution. For a disabled person to be granted accommodations, we have to jump through numerous hoops, and there is no guarantee they will be granted (it's hardly ever a doctor deciding-it's an institution). Allies build inclusion in so we don't need accommodations.
