As we are approaching the end of Disability Pride Month, here's a few things to think about:
- A lot of disabled activism omits the abuse of adult disabled people who are forced to live with their abusive relatives or caretakers
- Men's mental health is often omitted in activism, and men are more likely to have a successful suicide attempt
- Psychiatry and misogyny go hand in hand, often brushing aside neurodivergency among women and other AFAB patients
- Banning trans healthcare on the basis of someone being mentally disabled is both transphobic and ableist, automatically stripping disabled trans folk of their autonomy
- Banning cars entirely excludes disabled folk who need them to move around, and it is a problem that public transport won't solve
- Shaming people for their hygiene is a normalized ableist/sanist trope that further marginalizes people with severe mental health issues struggling with self-care
- AAC devices should be more accessible to a wider spectrum of disabled folk and paywalling them behind such huge prices is profitting from the struggle of disabled
- Saying your political opponent (or anyone in the ruling class) is mentally ill in order to discredit them is ableist and doesn't push your stances onto a more credible ground
