I'm usually a major stoic when having a medically bad day. Why? In part, a Nordic upbringing. But there's more.
Years, hiding out in the "Disability Closet." It's primal, this instinct to mask our weaknesses. Over 20+ years, I fine-honed masking, fearing loss of family, friends, business, independence. Who wants to hear about pain? Soul-crushing fatigue? Costly specialists? No one, not really.

*Supposedly* it's lasagne. And that is a heap of very distressed lettuce to the side - old, limp, browning. No salad dressing either. Just UGH.

A bit dismal at eye level, what with the dead plants, garden detritus and all.
But then there it is - A brilliant autumn yellow against a late afternoon New Mexico blue sky. Nippy winter biting at my ears. A hot coffee in my hand.

😨😨😨 Disgusting dinner tonight here at the nursing home - small portion overcooked spaghetti, pile of wet croutons, scoop of rotten lettuce, dripping with... something. Seriously awful.

😡😡😡 The petty dictator on call moron asshole doc tonight refuses to clear me for a Tylenol and a Benedryl. Fucking asshole. Soul crusher. Even though I've been taking both daily. Apparently the correct evening dose was never input for evening. ALL the other nurses just give it, so I didn't even know it wasn't on record, until tonight's temp nurse. A Benedryl and a Tylenol. Utterly ridiculous.
