“While Disability:IN publishes a list of the best places to work based on their DEI score, [its CEO] stressed that it’s not meant to be a tool for disabled workers and job-seekers.”

Good links to prior critiques as well.

  6. In case you missed it last week, here are some of the highlights from 2024 last week: deque.com/blog/deque-at-disabi

  7. You may know Allyant (which I pronounce “alley ant”) is the combined form of CommonLook, TBase, and Accessible360.

You may also now Allyable (which I pronounce “snake oil”) is an #overlay vendor.

Apparently Allyable (overlay) was spamming folks on the #DisabilityIN conference app. This resulted in folks regularly visiting the Allyant (combined company) booth thinking it was Allyable (overlay).

  12. Well everyone... I'm home from the #DisabilityIn conference and the rest of my family is asleep. In other news, I am continuing my email sparring with #Uber to escalate my case to an executive or other professional person who can appropriately discuss a #accessibility #disability #discrimination case.

  17. An #Uber driver refused to transport me from the Cosmopolitan Hotel to the airport on my way home from the #DisabilityIn conference because I am blind! I have already reported the discrimination with Uber. I am also reporting the incident to the Las Vegas Police Department and I will also be contacting the NV Attorney General's Office. Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can call additional attention to this incidet so we reduce the likelihood of it's being repeated? #accessibility #blind

  22. I understand Biden ~got~ _tested positive for_ COVID here in Las Vegas. I might be feeling just a little bit better about wearing masks at #DisabilityIN. Shout out to the dozen of us trying to protect others *and* ourselves at this event. Sorry I cannot do more for those who cannot come because not everyone will mask.
[Edited to note he tested positive here; no idea where he got it.]

  27. Glenda presented me with this pin in the hallway between sessions today.

    I assume it’s gluten free.

  32. I had my first CSUNATC experience at #DisabilityIN. I was turned away from a session, along with a dozen others, because the room was at capacity.

The session was “Artificial Intelligence: Futureproofing with Accessibility to Address Opportunities, Challenges and Biases.”

Panelists include Dave Sloan (remember that book I endorsed a couple weeks ago?) and Microsoft’s Chief Accessibility Officer (remember that slide I shared yesterday?). I was looking forward to the discussion and Q&A.

  37. If you are in the #DisabilityIN session “Afternoon Plenary: All IN: Announcing the 2024 Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion and Inclusion Award Winners” and were unable to read the slide when the speaker said it was a text message exchange and those who could see it laughed, here is the slide with alt text. Well, all except the last line because a head was in the way.
