Later today, I'm helping a 24 yr old disabled young adult with down syndrome (with social anxiety) to do her first grocery shopping trip without her parents using the accessible HandyDart bus system. Then, going to finish helping her setup her new independent living suite. This will all help her build up more confidence with living by herself for the first time. She is in PT college, pursuing medical transcription career & doing pretty well with her studies 👍

I am thrilled to share with you all a beautiful sculpture made by my dear friend Rita. The piece is a bust of me, and I'm honored that she chose to celebrate my unique form despite my physical limitations due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It reminds me that my beauty and value are not defined by societal norms or physical ability, but by the wonder and complexity of the human form. As a protagonist in the film "Touch Me Not" by Adina Pintilie, I've become passionate about the importance of disability empowerment and inclusion, and this sculpture is a powerful representation of that. Thank you, Rita, for capturing the themes of intimacy and sexuality with such grace and beauty. Andrew Thorne will be #ShowingOff his #CookingSkills to the world at the 2023 #Abilympics next week.
He's one of five #NovaScotians who will be taking part at the #quadrennial #vocational #SkillsCompetition for #PeopleWithDisabilities being held this year in #Metz #France from March 23-25.
The 2023 #competition will be the 10th #international Abilympics. The first was first held in Japan in 1981.
