  1. A way to avoid #Carbon at all is to use #Hydrogen for the #Reduction process. But this only makes sense if the hydrogen is derived from a green source, such as #electrolysis of #water using #RenewableEnergy sources only. If that could be done at scale then this could be a #green way to produce steel from #IronOre. I think the jury’s still out on this.

    The problem with making steel using a #BlastFurnace is that it requires very high temperatures and #CokingCoal to #reduce the #Oxygen content as it is made to bond to #Carbon instead. This produces #CarbonMonoxide and then #CarbonDioxide.
