@Oleksii @robot Video calls using @dino has been working even on #postmarketOS stable since last year at least. I tested it successfully on a #Librem5 with pmOS 26.06 and 25.12 during each's testing phase.

How does #dinoim look on a small display like on a mobile phone? Are there any screenshots available?

@lyn1337 I'm using #postmarketOS stable phosh on a #Librem5, and #XMPP messaging works fine with the default Chats app: #GnomeChats / #Chatty.
#DinoIM works even better as it supports audio calls. Unlike Chatty, however, it can't run in the background.

@dos @ati1 @linmob That automatic switching from speaker to handset is only for the Calls app, right?
I was referring to #e2ee voice calls on #SignalDesktop, #ElementMessenger, #DinoIM and #DeltaChat. I did try #PureOS Crimson alpha a few days ago but forgot to test this, so would definitely be interested if there's any news regarding this : )

@Satiah I'm also daily driving a #Librem5 with most important think working for my use case: Volte calls and SMS (although I avoid both since #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, web browsing on Firefox, email, e2ee messaging and calls using #SignalApp, #DinoIM (XMPP), latest apps from Flathub, and of course the headphone jack!
#PureOS offers a solid, stable experience but in case you want to try something else, #postmarketOS (with phosh, KDE Plasma, Gnome, SXMO) and #Mobian also work on the Librem 5.

@ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.
On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.
I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.
There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.
Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...

My grandmother recently got locked out of #WhatsApp because her phone broke, and the spare one we had on hand is one WhatsApp has decided is too old to run on 💀
Fortunately, #XMPP has no such qualms! She's currently keeping up with the family group chat on #Quicksy while others of us use #Conversations, #DinoIM, and #Gajim. (Of course, extended family and friends are another matter 😔)
This serves as a reminder that closed apps may close you out—but open protocols have your back forever! :xmpp:

@debacle
I must say ppl are getting burnt w/ #Dino. #DinoIM defaults to e2ee *disabled* for every channel/room. And the padlock is *very* subtle. You get no warning if you send something in the clear. No indicator. I have been burnt a few times by that.A bug report was opened 4 years ago. It should be urgent but still no progress. I have had lengthy private 1-on-1 discussions then discovered days later that the whole conversation was in the clear.

#DinoIM version 0.4 is much more mobile-friendly. A big usability improvements on my #PinePhone with #Mobian because I now can stay in the vertical layout, no longer having to rotate my phone. https://dino.im/blog/2023/02/dino-0.4-release/

@devinprater well, for a start I stopped using Facebook and never got onto Telegram (okay, kinda a bit for a little while) 😅
So my texting is restricted to pure XMPP through #DinoIM, #ConversationsIM, and (very occasionally, more rarely) #Gajim 🗨️
Well not "purely"; I also have #Hangouts (yes, the Google one) for the friends of mine who haven't switched... :loading:

CW: hi there from a third-world-megacity guy!
@puffinux @oloco welcome.
consider using #XMPP with #Conversations instead of Signal on Android. On Debian you got https://gajim.org (working stable) and #dinoim (still in dev) but both are Gtk apps. Not sure how they run on KDE.
