Anyone using the Digitone, Digitakt, or other similar Elektron boxes know if there is a basic peak meter somewhere in the UI?
Or is that a kind of thing that makes no sense to use on a synth and instead only on a recording target or destination elsewhere? I'm trying to figure something out in the context of the compressor, in terms of a reference point to adjust each track.

How do people use these Elektron compressors without a peak meter? Isn’t that necessary?

Trying to learn how to use the Digitone compressor and found this really useful video. Have to say compression has to be one of the trickiest things to learn with synths.

Tried to see what it’s like to do something experimental on a Digitone and it’s about as easy to use as an analog modular, I think. Took me about half hour to figure out how to record audio straight into an iPhone camera and had to use the Blackmagic camera app (amazing btw) and a Zoom U24. Used 3 tracks with “probability” triggers and 1 S&H LFO. Just 16 steps, looping. Of course not as powerful as a modular but so convenient and compact.

I'm selling my Elektron Digitone on Reverb: https://reverb.com/item/94334932-elektron-digitone-8-voice-digital-synthesizer-2017-2024-black. UK only if you're interested, very good condition #elektron #digitone #synth @electronicmusic

#Elektron devices are still new to me, and I'm still learning how to use them. And I keep forgetting the shortcuts! So I created an interactive list for searching shortcuts, because I don't want to keep looking them up in the manual or asking questions and trusting some LLM.
I am sharing this with the rest of the world.

Digitone has landed
https://youtube.com/shorts/zisVRvW8FdA
I bought an Elektron Digitone II at Wired Tunes a month ago. It’s a tiny box oF Magic.
In this jam, Condukt, running on the iPhone, is giving me a helping hand and fading in the kick and its sidechain compression.

#Jamuary2025 day 19 https://desolationpark.se/jamuary-2025/19/
Back to my regular style, that is the style of melodic shimmering synths and natural sounding drums. Also leans heavily on the "303"-patch for #Digitone previously used in Strange Data: https://desolationpark.se/strange-data/ which in turn was inspired by this: https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=ibX9hxcMWKI (alt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibX9hxcMWKI)

#Jamuary2025 day 15 https://desolationpark.se/jamuary-2025/15/
Haven't been motivated the last couple of days, but today I made something that I'm pretty satisfied with.
Continuing experimenting with with databending samples, but more focus on melody, with the samples as percussion and background effects
All percussion samples except the kick are sourced from data (Amiga disk-images and trackermusic modules, like last time) and sequenced with the #Digitakt. Melodic parts played on the #Digitone. -
"The second day of #Jamuary, Desolation gave to me, an FM-flute in a #bonkWave tree."
When I told my partner I was doing #jamuary2025 she compiled a list of words for inspiration. Today's word is "tea". I started by recording water boiling, thinking I would make musique concrete or something. But ended up using it as a noisy backdrop for a nice melody. Everything else is made with factory sounds (a bit tweaked) of the #Digitone and #Digitakt

My first #Jamuary. Not sure if I'll keep up with one piece per day. But I'll try and see how it goes.
First up is a droney thing make on the #Digitone with steady monotonous but slowly evolving arps, and willful pitch sweeps coming to visit here and there.

Check out some #newMusic, a little ambient modular thing i meditated on today

Has anyone used #Overwitch, the #Elektron #Overbridge device client for Linux?
I'm having problems getting it to work. It compiled ok (just the cli, but that's ok), and the additional udev-rules has been installed. I've restarted the computer to be on the safe side. I've selected "overbridge" mode in the #Digitone's USB-config.
`overwitch-cli -l` says nothing, actually any `overwitch` command just returns without any message (although with the return code 1).
`lsusb` finds the device. -
Argh! It seems my #Digitone and #Digitakt are slightly out of balance, one to the left and one to the right. Noticed it while mixing a new track, looking at the meters in Ardour and the drum-track seemed balanced slightly to the right. I guess it's not noticeable in the finished song, but annoying nonetheless. At least I know about it and can tweak it.
And since the different audio sources have the opposite problem, I can just pretend that I mixed it that way :blobfoxlaughsweat:

Whoa, made a discovery that might make #Digitone with #Digitakt song mode arrangement much easier.
Before this revelation I didn't care about the "row length"-value in "song edit", just let it sit at the default (same as pattern length). I mostly use 16 steps on the drum-machine, and 64 on the synth (or less if I don't need more), this discrepancy caused the arrangement to become very complicated, since the two machines switch patterns at different times depending on their lengths.

"Chromium Delusion" is also done entirely on the #Digitone, including the annoying drum-programming. :blobfoxcry2:
Not much to say about this track. Like "September" it's pretty short and rather inspired by #VideoGameMusic. I'm really satisfied with the build-up in the "chorus".

https://desolationpark.bandcamp.com/track/september
"September" is one of the first real songs I made, on a borrowed #Digitone. I had real fun playing with the random LFO to get that shimmery sound.
The drums are also made with the synth, so I had to cram the drums into one track by parameter-locking sounds to every trig, pretty annoying work.
Back when I started, the Digitone had no song-mode, so I made a bash-script on my computer which sent midi-commands instructing the synth to switch patterns.

https://desolationpark.bandcamp.com/track/sinking-deeper
I had no idea in advance what I wanted to tell with "Sinking deeper", but afterwards it felt right to associate the feel of the music with depression and anxiety, which also set the theme of the album.
This is also made with a #Digitone. To prepare I played a single tone and experimented with the parameters affecting the sound. Performance was improvised based on what I learned during tweaking. Cuts were made afterwards because some parts was too harsh or boring.

https://desolationpark.bandcamp.com/track/tunnel-51
The title "Tunnel #51" is a reference to Area 51 for some sci-fi-feel, the game Half-Life 2 Ep2 had a bit of influence of the mine-theme.
I modelled four different sounds on the #Digitone, decided to use the iwato scale, and placed lots of sequencer steps with low trig-probability playing random tones in the scale.
Performing consisted of adjusting the trig-probability of the channels to influence the intensity of the music, and adjusting filter and other parameters.

I decided to write some track-for-track posts about the music I've made; the thoughts behind, some technical stuff, etc.
All my music so far has been composed with #Elektron #Digitone and #Digitakt, and recorded directly into a Tascam portable digital recorder. No DAW has been used because it's a pretty minimal setup (so far).
The album "Music For Mineshafts" was my first foray into #DarkAmbient. The influences was part classical minimalists like Arvo Pärt and Steve Reich and part Lustmord.

New video today, sequence phasing like you're an experimental musician in the 1960s!
