The quirky aspect of the #digitaltransition is that while its just another tech (electricity, wires, silicon etc.) it can encode, process and transmit facets of the social domain like never before.

That has been recognized and has at times given rise to a lot of optimism but it is also borne out by the current dystopia. The gazillionaire #techbros is not what anybody wanted or needed, but their mere existence signals the immense potential for new "social tech" if we ever learn to tap it.

You should not need a surveillance device from Apple or Google to access #banking services via mobile devices

Not while physical branches are being deprecated as fast as they can and desktop access is almost 100% via browser software of the same two companies

This unacceptable system-wide bottleneck reveals how shortsighted, disconnected and flawed the regulation of the so-called #digitaltransition

The universe is crying out for an #opensource mobile for the masses that serves vital functions

Rushing to 100% "digitize" the economy and society (e.g. #cashfree, no physical stores, #cloudification etc.) is problematic and risky in the best of scenarios.

When you don't even control control the technologies involved, it goes beyond monumental incompetence and gets into suspicious territory.

The #digitaltransition is an unstoppable force. Like the harnessing of fire, it will empower those who can handle it and turn to ashes those who cannot.

The storied physical bookstores of #amsterdam bundled their energies to create an online presence.

Kudos. If we don't want to turn the planet into a giant automated Amazon warehouse that pushes and pulls our consumption strings we need to support local entities.

NB: In terms of social media presence alas they just feature the usual Meta links. Exception is Athenaeum (it is on #bluesky but not on #mastodon)

Tired: Dollarized economy

While the EU reluctantly wakes up to its severe dependence on US digital technology (and at least pretends to have a sovereignty ambition), large parts of the world have no such luxury.

Many less developed countries have become de-facto digital colonies, or digital banana republics if you wish, with the "cash crop" being their population.
