Who's got a good command-line incantation to run on Linux to compress PDF files of scanned images of text, while retaining legibility?
Examples using ghostscript provide terrible results and qpdf barely compresses.
These are mostly scans (of photocopies!) which have been processed to make them high-contrast. Example attached. The second image is at maximum zoom showing the pixels.

I have an archive of all the spam email I've received since 2002. [1] I should sell it as an LLM "training data set". Whatcha think, Sam? Ten grand, super cheap! Almost all of it is low-background text!

[1] Though this doesn't include stuff my filters bounced before it got this far, so it's "only" a little over 166,000 emails.

Very long-shot request here... but does *anyone* have an original VHS rip of the Seybold New York 1998 keynote by Steve Jobs? The MP4 available on archive.org has some nightmarish codec issues, and the only version on YT is 144p.
Even if it's not a first-generation rip, I'm sure we can do better than this 😮
Sorry for all the hashtags here, trying to get a little exposure on this.
