  1. 🚀 So you built a frontpage for personal blogs, huh? 🤔 Congratulations on reinventing the RSS feed and cramming it with the most riveting content like local produce rants and courtroom aroma comparisons. 🍅🎸 Truly, a groundbreaking achievement in digital gardening! 🌱👏

  3. I'm currenly re-designing and re-coding my website. One of the main changes I'm doing is working more towards a Digital Garden style of site and less of a feed-style blog (I suppose it might end up being a mix).

Embarrassingly my current website doesn't even have RSS, but that is also one thing I'd like to fix with this new site.

A problem is this though: in a digital garden style site where the interesting update to the content might be *changes* in existing sites, what should actually be included in the RSS feed? New stuff obviously, but what if a page is added to?

One option is to give a choice, but ultimately I need to provide a default canonical option.

(Yeah, I realize I'm yet another developer spending more time developing my website than actually writing content for it.)

  4. What are people’s experiences with #digitalgardens If you have one, do you use it for your own reference often? Have you made friends through it? Does it help you write / accomplish some other task?

Looking to hear from folks who have abandoned their gardens as well please

  5. I've read a number of posts about personal websites lately from different perspectives, all highlighting their value. This is my attempt to reflect on reclaiming my creative space and what it means to me.

  6. Existential crises notwithstanding, I've been working on my music collection project again, introducing a way to organise releases around life periods. Special thanks to @sphars, whose blog post about managing books data pointed me towards Node scripts—which enabled me to realise this feature.

  7. I had a blog post brewing about the #smallweb, #indieweb, #digitalGardening, you mention it. A friend whose website I look after asked me if I could remove the “Blog” section from said website. This prompted me to ship the article.

  8. The pushback I received made me think about a way to re-clarify my message about digital gardens. The last thing I want people to think is that one is better than the other. I rather communicate the freedom digital gardening has given me, and how I've written so much more since taking this approach to writing for the web.

  9. I actually made some notes of my server recovery that might be interesting to others, but have place to publish them yet (too upolished and messy for my blog). Should probably (finally) up some tool to publish raw notes (they are already in markdown, so that should not be too hard...)

  10. Well, finally got through all the dependencies I needed to do a little refactoring to document what I want to do with my fun project. Not sure if "writing documentation" is fun by itself.

So, the initial version of v4 project layout that explains that last year or so of my development evolution on private projects:

    • Expanded philosophies
    • Why I switched to Just
    • My reasons for using .config/ for configuration files
    • High-level use of Nix flakes including my two project setup flakes
    • Standard directories on polyglot projects

  11. I've been working on my music collection project again, documenting the development of "memory boxes" for release pages—including bonus side quests into psychology and knowledge management:

  14. Hi all! I studied computer science with a focus on RTOS and FP/PL, but I graduated law school earlier this year. I practice at a boutique firm that primarily handles IP cases. I foilboard and I play way too many rhythm games in and out of the arcade.

I contribute to open source projects where I can, and I write up my experience in my digital garden which I’ve been maintaining for 2 years now. It’s also a good place to find usage tips for projects/tools that you might want to use.

My passion for tech also includes privacy, and I’m an advocate for minimizing your digital footprint. GenAI is a scam and its purveyors are causing real harm while they sell it as hard as they can.

  15. Given the current Wordpress situation, I’m excited to see if it creates a rise in popularity for selfhosted or alternative blogging tools.

It’s also probably a good time to let people know that the open-source, Fediverse-compatible Ghost platform has a migration guide from WordPress: ghost.org/docs/migration/wordp
