The equipment for making chips is now so expensive that very few can afford to buy it.
That is why I suggested a nation-state do it. I'd buy RAM and SSDs from Chips Canada, if it were to exist. (Or from an analogous company created by any trading partner in the blocs #Canada is joining or starting in response to the US trade war.) So would many individuals and small businesses here. So would our schools and hospitals, municipalities and utilities. So would the #CAF (our military) and the #RCMP (our federal police), as would our #nationalSecurity intelligence services. And so would heavy industry in sectors critical to the Canadian economy, for whom I know first-hand the current prices of RAM and SSDs directly contributing to suspension of operation at some plants and to minimizing of staffing at others.
I had one recent contract, at a major producer of a leading Canadian export, which included my salvaging DDR3 from PCs planned for disposal.

most of them aren't from politicians themselves, but from friendly think tanks. regardless of the affiliation of political leaning, absolute majority of them are admiring AI as if it's a second coming.
yet I haven't yet seen from them any actual use cases of where and how they see using AI and instead talk in abstracts about "democratised" ownership etc.

Heute war ein unbefriedigender #diday, denn alles, was an #digitalAutonomy zu tun gewesen wäre, hat mit #smartphone zu tun. Und da komme ich mit meinem Wissen nicht aus - es sei denn, ich würde für viel Geld neue Handys & Tablets mit vorinstallierter freier Software einkaufen? Ich habe Linux seit 2011, ich bin nicht technisch unwissend, aber ich arbeite im sozialen & künstlerischen Bereich & bin ganz ehrlich einfach überfordert, freie Betriebssysteme auf Smartphones & Tablets zu installieren.

I guess one of the perks of having the same name + surname of a notorious footballer is that LLMs will mess things up big time and not "find" you to feed themselves 😜👍🏻
On the other hand, my good old brand name is *totally* fried and roasted 😤😡🤬

A quote I can certainly relate to! Deleting #WhatsApp, for instance, has been tough. Not that I ever was a heavy user, but 6 months since I deleted it from my mobile I still end up in phone calls with family & friends questioning me really hard as to why I did it.
If only they knew ... 😤

Choice to walk the talk and lead by example, or just keep using BS speak by telling you one thing (i.e. Bad, bad, bad US Big Tech, move away from it!), but then use it *every day* yourself for the sake of "reach" and "engagement" 😤
That rubs me pretty badly as phoney and hypocritical, to say the least.

Not that I'm a heavy user of either MSFT Office, or Apple's iWork, but while I wait for an invite to take Office EU for a spin 👉🏻 https://office.eu/, I just downloaded #LibreOffice in my laptop to start playing with it. See whether it blends and can be used as a decent alternative to meet my needs & wants.

Oooh, well, I guess it was too good to be true 🤔. After reading this article 👉🏻 https://www.wired.com/story/qobuz-is-the-anti-spotify-we-need-right-now/ I decided to take #Qobuz for a spin and signed up for a 30-day free trial to see if I can migrate from #AppleMusic.
I imported one of my 3 favourite playlists and out of the 400+ tracks in it, about 40+ of them were not to be found in Qobuz. A good number of them from one of my favourite groups. Yikes! 😤
I suppose I'll need to keep looking ... 😔
