I love how Coding agents allow me to implement the crazy ideas in my head! Checkout my TUI (Terminal UI) client for APRS. It now supports #digirig #mobilinkd and #direwolf. Check it out https://github.com/eusef/eusef-aprs-tui.

Where are my #macos #HamRadio #APRS #direwolf #digirig folks at?
So, my digirig works fine on macos if I just hamlib it. Like, I can rigctl, toggle the ptt, everything works just fine.
But, for whatever reason, direwolf _refuses_ to work.
I see it, like, flash the ptt once the first time I try to Tx, but nothing comes out, and then the ptt doesn't even trigger with subsequent attempted transmissions. The direwolf console registers that it Tx'd packets, and there are no error messages.
I've even tried running the digirig as a rigctld server locally. Same deal; other programs can trigger ptt for an arbitrary amount of time, but direwolf configured to use it still just flashes the first packet.
I don't have this issue on Linux, and I don't _think_ I have this problem when I use vox on a baofeng (I need to try again to verify).

My mobile APRS Digipeter doesn’t look suspicious at all… once up and running it pulls 0.11 Amps. With that 4.5Amp battery it should last 36 hours at 90% efficiency give or take. I can’t imagine trying to take this on a plane! #bioenno #aprs #digipeter #digirig #amateurradio #hamradio #packetradio #direwolf #photo

@w8tau.bsky.social I wasn't sure whether the #digirig could be used like this from iOS and I'm happily surprised that it seems to work! This opens up all kinds of #SOTA / #POTA possibilities!

#digirig lite all shrink wrapped. Linux Mint sees it as a normal USB sound device 👍 @thedigirig

I posted this in the #digirig forums, even though it's a general linux sound device question
https://forum.digirig.net/t/anyone-got-a-dual-vara-fm-direwolf-packet-gateway-linux/3439
Anyone know how to get more than one app to talk to digirig in Linux? Namely: VARA FM (in WIne) and direwolf connected simultaneously? -
So, some notes:
Got my K1 cables for the #DigiRig today, meaning I should be able to have an audio I/F to most HTs. (And if they're RS-232 serial, I can program them too.) So I just did some low-power APRS testing... and sure enough, plug in the GT-5R and my 878 was decoding packets from it.
Only one issue: the AnyTone 878 doesn't PTT in the same way, apparently, so that's not doing anything. I guess that means this cable is Baofeng only... but you know, the GT-5R has "enough" filtering (certainly more than the UV-5R) and a portable APRS station is a portable APRS station. I think I can work with that.

I got rigctld to start up whenever I plug in my #digirig on Linux!
Check out how: https://blog.bauxite.tech/hamradio/rigctl/hamlib/digirig/aprs/packetradio/2024/02/21/rigctld
Man, jekyll makes STUPID paths. I gotta find a new blog platform.

Side project this week is getting my fresh linux mint install ready for #HamRadio use.
I've missed having the flexibility linux offer when it comes to setting up things like rig control and all that.
Sure, I'm having trouble getting CM108 to actually work with the #Digirig, but at least it's an OPTION.
Still, I think I'm going to go the rigctld route, just because it lets me continue working on my current project without having to handle serial ports myself.
-
For the record, my current "I want to #HamRadio from my desk" setup is:
1. https://gitlab.com/b4ux1t3/RigControl.Net This lets me remotely control a rigctld server in order to trigger PTT on a #digirig
2. https://www.sonobus.net/ this lets me pipe audio over my network. All I want is a program that does both of those things in one program without buying a $1k+ radio, and without me having to write it into my app up there. :(

Speaking of things I've been meaning to post about #HamRadio: Does anyone know of any software that lets you pipe your computer's microphone out to a radio input through, for example, a #digirig? I don't mean remote control software for a radio (Though I also want that, I have a whole series of toots on the old account about that), I mean software specifically for operating devices like the digirig or #aioc
Toggles the PTT using a serial device, outputs audio from mic, nothing else.
