@actuallyautistic Oh, and yeah. I was the one who won the 50-yard and 100-yard dashes in HS (against fellow AFABs, but could have competed with the boys), and I graduated with HONORS from HS and College (with a degree specializing in Ancient Greek), and have loved and been loved by many. I've had a full life (but it could have been way fuller *IF* I hadn't been bullied and knew more about my unique abilities -- not disabilties -- at a younger age)!

I manned sailboat for almost full session today & she gave me guidance only when needed. There was more breezes so we didn't need to be towed out or back. My next session is on August 4th 😊⛵️

I can try out more tacking & keeling moves. Was able to pick up enough wind, out on open ocean, to keel the sailboat a few times & got waves rushing on/over the gunnels. That was fun & exciting!

I'm overly excited about getting back into #AdaptiveSailing tomorrow morning! I'm out on waters at 10 AM. I'm going to arrive early as I'm not familiar with the marina setup there. It's my first time back at #ParaSailing in 10 yrs. I used to train with disabled sailing association Victoria before it was disbanded. I'm now learning with Able Sail Victoria.

Me, with local Power To Be folks, at summit - when I helped test out a trail rider & train new adaptive recreation assistants from UVIC. It's great for disabled who can't hike anymore BUT it needs able bodied sherpas. I'm seeking something I can use, independently.
Also, Daryl, in gray shirt & toque is my sledge hockey coach(we're still on hiatus due to covid & losing our ice space at Juan de Fuca Rec).

We ended up #hiking the Upper Falls trails at #GoldstreamPark instead. It's accessed via the campground area & the trails there aren't as busy as the main hiking trails accessed through their main parking lot. My friend had never seen the Upper Falls before so I wanted to show her.

I used to love the short cartoon, Gerald McBoing Boing, as a kid. Coming back as an adult with autistic behaviors, I appreciate it even more for the message of acceptance of those that are different. My heart swells (three times as big) and my eyes tear up in how the world of the story celebrates the child and his parents accept him and they become wealthy. If only the real world was similar.

@nilikm as someone with #deaf family members it’s easy to see how ignored the #differentlyAbled community is. Each state handles #adaptive equipment differently so insurance and warranties are tricky. One has to be aggressive to find the right solutions. And #mentalHealth! Such a struggle in rural areas! So I hope advocates can be found in state and federal government.
