  3. ✮ Blinker ✮

We spend so much time blinking and looking away,
we blink so much that we don’t realize our fuse is alight.
    A turn of the dial,
    into another scene,
    never rooted in the moment,
    as transient as everything mortal.
We blink, to erase the unpleasant,
    we blink, to jump forward,
    coil our bodies around rest,
    wrap paychecks inside our hands,
so, we can blink a little more.
We skip and jump out of the day,
when tomorrow is worse than today,
    we blink it away,
as if we have unlimited blinks,
and soon enough we’ll hit a wall
and wish we could have kept our eyes open
    more frequently.

Here today; gone tomorrow, never take anything for granted.

When complaining about long walks, someone is dreaming of having such luxury. Walks that people take for granted mean everything to someone else who is bound by a condition that prevents them from doing so. They could be bedridden; they could be hiding in fear in a war zone; they could be impeded by physical conditions that limit them.

You complain about tidying up. It’s because you have a home. You stress out over traffic. It’s because you have a car. You can’t deal with the noise. You have a family. Someone out there wants what you have but can only dream of it.

When frowning in dissatisfaction over a prepared meal, think about that person who took time and poured every ounce of their heart, hoping to bring you happiness. Think.

Be grateful that you are in school; not everyone is afforded such an opportunity. Not as a promise to secure a job, but to learn. Bitterness often comes from discounting what people already have. Contentment, as they say, is the key to happiness. Dream, but be forgiving. If it’s yours, it will come to fruition. If not, steady your heart and live with what you have.

Never neglect people or things that add, give, and bring value to your life. Blessed are those who can’t count how many people they love with their fingers. If you do, you’re already rich. Hurray! You will have someone to turn to.

At the end of the day, when all that you take for granted is gone, what will be left of you?

In a heroic attempt to relive the glory days of #dial-up #internet and #floppy #disks, our valiant coder insists on handcrafting every #pixel as if it's still 1993! 🚀 The only thing more outdated than this game’s graphics is the developer’s sense of time well spent. ⏳🤦‍♂️

  6. Good morning. ☕☕☕

    30 May 2026

I remember when telephones with push‑buttons started showing up. They looked so modern, so futuristic, like something out of a science‑fiction movie. If you had one sitting on your desk, you must have been somebody — even though, at first, they didn’t really do anything the old rotary phones couldn’t do. I still wonder why we started with a dial instead of buttons in the first place. I don’t wonder long, though. It had to be whatever the technology of the time could manage.

When I was a small child living with my grandparents — my parents were off at the Great Lakes while my dad went through Navy training — I had to memorize their phone number. To this day, it still doesn’t make sense to me. It was “Sycamore 5‑2453.” Try dialing that into a phone today. There have been a few changes since then.

And isn’t it funny that after all these years, after all the technical leaps that led to the cell phones we carry in our back pockets, we still say we’re “dialing” a number? I’m sure plenty of young people don’t even know what that means. I’ve seen clips online where teenagers are handed an old rotary phone and look as confused as I’d be if someone handed me a crank‑and‑jar churn. I wouldn’t know its purpose, let alone how to use it.

Makes you wonder what the next fifty years will bring. I’m certain of one thing: nobody will be running down to the telegraph office. And someday, even cell phones will go the way of buggy whips.

Oh joy, another attempt to make your shiny new #Mac run old #games that were groundbreaking when #dial-up was cutting-edge. 🖥️🎮 Apparently, some people enjoy the thrill of playing pixelated chaos on hardware capable of rendering near-photorealistic graphics. Because who wouldn't want to travel back to 1997 and virtually run over pedestrians for fun? 🚗💥

Rotary phones were in use long after that in Canada, and probably other places, but touch-tone was also available. In the late 80s/early 90s I still had a line that would only do pulse dialing, because touch-tone dialing was an add-on charge with the phone company where I lived.

It was a significant amount; just adding touch-tone support increased the monthly bill by almost 10%. Yes, this was a BS charge, because it was just a flag they set on your account. It didn't cost them anything to provide tone dialing. They still do the same thing with caller-ID, so I don't have it. "We don't care. We're the phone company; we don't have to."

At the time, many (perhaps most) phones you could buy had push-button dialing, but there was a switch on the phone to choose pulse or tone dialing. If you set it to pulse, you'd push the 7 button, and then you'd hear 7 clicks, etc.

    So kind of "hybrid dialing".
