Idk what improvements have been made to it, but the way Dia writes is the best I've used as of late
I think it strikes a great balance between being serious and getting the joke
Where ChatGPT is trying too hard to be friendly and Claude is just matter–of–fact it's a great balance
I really need Dia mobile so I can have it everywhere

From Josh Miller, CEO of The Browser Company
(the fact that it’s on Twitter kinda diminishes the sentiment but when Timmy goes to movie night with Donnie the night this happens this is what we’ve got to work with)
But when Big Tech cannot, the indies, the boutique devs, and the startups need to stand above so good on him for that

Alright, Dia. You Got Me.
"Dia’s made some huge progress in the last couple of weeks, and it’s been progress that has made the browser honestly indispensable for me, nailing some things that even kept me from Arc in the early days."

Over the course of the past week I've gone from "what's Dia going to be able to do against Chrome, Atlas, and Orion" and now I'm finding Dia indispensable
AI features notwithstanding, it's really coming into its own as a successor to Arc and I'm really happy that BCNY is proving me wrong

The very fact that these web apps are still in my dock and not in #DiaBrowser is pretty damning for their goal to have everything live in the browser

The Odd Technical Battle Within the AI Browser Explosion
The Browser Company made some interesting claims about not being able to get the performance needed out of SwiftUI for Dia, but Atlas went all in on it

And just like that: Dia is dead.
Double tapped by Gemini in Chrome and ChatGPT Atlas
Shoulda stuck with Arc

I have some new thoughts about The Browser Company being acquired by Atlassian
It’s still pretty much a death knell for a consumer product…but I’m actually exactly in Atlassian’s target audience at work for their plans
Plus I get to talk a little about what I do at work, which doesn’t happen often

You can bet your ass that whenever #OpenAI releases their browser that I'm gonna figure out how to set @kagihq as the default search engine
I did it in Dia, I'll do it here too

With all that's going on, I'm still probably going to stay on Dia for the foreseeable future

Dia needs to recapture some of the whimsy that Arc had

Shoutout to @comfortzone for spending a good portion of the podcast validating my switch back to Arc for the 5th time since it was abandoned
Dia has a sidebar, but it’s super basic and works more like edge’s sidebar It’s still better than a horizontal tab bar but I’m sticking with Arc for the time being
Hopefully BCNY can flesh out the Arc sidebar in Dia as like a “pro mode” kind of thing but it is nice to see that they’re starting to listen to Arc users
-
Closer, but still needs some improvement
Might throw my thoughts on this on The Digital Renaissance
-
Dia browser brought tabs on the sidebar! While it isn't as nicely polished as Arc just yet, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
I have a few invites left if anyone somehow still needs one. Keep in mind this will only work for Apple Silicon.
-
Okay, BCNY:
Step 1: Rebuild Arc on Dia's tech stack
Step 2: Rebrand it as Dia Pro (Or something dumb like Noche)
Step 3: Charge US$10-15/month
Step 4: Profit -
I get that The Browser Company had to pivot to Dia since it has AI much more baked into the product.
I can't still understand why it couldn't have been an addition to the current Arc. Why can't the capabilities of Dia be baked into a right side panel in Arc?
-

I'm an #ArcBrowser user (from @TheBrowserCompany). It's simple, static tabs approach and vertical layout helped my #ADHD no end. I was briefly forced onto Chrome at work and it was like my world collapsed. I genuinely couldn't function!
Just tried #DiaBrowser, their new #GenAI browser and all that stress came back like a tidal wave. Traditional browser layout and the chaos of too many tabs. It's a huge step backward for me.
It's worse because now it's added extra stress because I feel pressured to ask the GenAI bit about web pages. Yet it's easier often to just read the page I'm on. Maybe if it automatically summarised long, ad-heavy or poorly written pages
For now I'll hold on to Arc for as long as I'm able. If it really must be cancelled could you please at least bring the 'fixed' vertical tabs approach to Dia as an option please?
Also, please don't expect me to type for everything via chat interfaces. That's just throwing away 50 years of UI and interaction design progress.
-
I've been using Dia for a week now and what I like about it is that it enhances rather than replaces web pages, using your open tabs and browsing history as context to provide meaningful insights. #diabrowser
-
Dia read my last ten blog posts and concluded "Ben’s writing is a tapestry of technical exploration, open-source advocacy, and a gentle, persistent optimism about the web’s potential to empower users and communities." I'll take that. #diabrowser

So, another issue with using Dia like this is that iPad is actually my main computer
Like I’m sitting on here and typing this from my iPad testing iPadOS 26, I don’t do my shopping on my Mac browser, I don’t write documents in my Mac browser, a lot of this happens on my iPad
And even if it were happening on my Mac it wouldn’t be happening just in the browser, especially not a traditional browser
All of this did happen in Arc

See the big issue with Dia is that I don't use a standard web browser for much, I use web apps, sure, but I use a lot of them on the desktop through wrappers
So it's never going to really build all of this personal context for me because that's all going to be sitting at the OS-level, not the browser-level
Also trying to use something like Notion in a browser with a horizontal tab bar is unpleasant, really considering just sticking with Safari
-
Right now it feels like Dia is just a nice Chromium wrapper
Hopefully they can do something really interesting with it, they had a great idea with Arc, I hope we can get something really special here
I continue to keep in mind what Josh said: "40% of people are using chat in Dia" along with what @matt said: "Well that means 60% of people aren't"
I haven't had a ton of time with the browser, but I'm not finding much value here
