Deutschland zählt weltweit zu den wichtigsten Importeuren lebender Reptilien und Amphibien sowie ihrer Teile und Produkte (wie z.B. Leder für die Modeindustrie) und trägt damit eine Verantwortung für den Schutz der betreffenden Arten. Für Deutschland ist das BfN für die Regulierung des internationalen Handels mit geschützten Arten nach dem #CITES Abkommen zuständig.
