@jonathanharker Yeah, checked TradMe. Lots of XR stuff. XRP are the professional version, much bigger battery pack format and totally incompatible. Yes, I can get an adaptor but I'll be buggered if I'm buying #DeWalt again.

Dear Lazyweb. I have quite the collection of #DeWalt XRP tools. They're currently useless. This is because a power surge took out my lithium XRP charger and these as far as I can tell are complete unobtainium.

So, seeking advice on a non-DeWalt tool line to replace them with. I will, of course, be making adaptors. But I want to use batteries from a manufacturer that won't fuck me over like this so that as the tools die I can buy replacements from someone else.

Update on my six month old #dewalt drill that developed a directional instability.

After I finally found their customer service their help was just to point me to their local service centre. So I had to drive across town to bring it in. It was still under warranty and today I picked up the repaired item after a motor and switch replacement.

Glad it was repaired, but disappointed that it failed and that they didn't make warranty coverage more effortless.

Further on that #Dewalt product - I filled out an online form, and they got back to me with confirmation it was still under warranty and gave me the address of their local service centre.

I guess it gets fixed rather than replaced. I just have to drive it out to the far reaches of the opposite end of town. Maybe later this week.

Then I'm without my drill for a few weeks no doubt. Glad I have some working backups, but still – not what I paid for. :(

I have lotsa #DewaltTools which I've found to be decent. Some are 25+ yrs old. Last winter I needed to replace some batteries so decided to move to try a new ecosystem. I ended up staying w #Dewalt, and their 20V lithium batts.

One of the tools I acquired was a drill that had been fine, but recently become annoying. It spontaneously switches direction! What a hassle. You think you're removing a screw then it decides to go the other direction! Yikes!

Let's see how their #customerService is!

@3dprinting I cut the hole in the FilaBilly Humidor's side today. I used it as an excuse to get a new toy-- er, tool for the workshop. Jigsaws have come a long way since my 1985 model.

As promised - #3Dprinting enthusiasts and #woodworking people of all ages - here is my handy little blade holder for your #jigsaw (if you own a #DeWalt).

I realized that it's a hassle to find a mounting screw for the thing if you don't have one handy from the cutting fence attachment, so I added a little pop-in split pin that seems to work very well and only looks slightly penis-like (not intentional - form follows function, what can I say).

Since #Makita is still selling in Russia ( https://som.yale.edu/story/2022/over-1000-companies-have-curtailed-operations-russia-some-remain ) we've switched to #DeWalt tools, but we have lots of Makita batteries. I recommend this adapter from the usual online sources: "Waitley Battery Adapter for Makita 18V conversion compatible with Dewalt 18V / 20V Power Tools". It works great, and includes both USB-A with QC3 and USB-C with PD fast charging ports.
