August 12, 2026"The battering ram took down the door first. A column of steel bolted to the front of a tactical vehicle slammed through Autumn Hill’s front entryway. Then the windows shattered. FBI agents threw flash-bang grenades through the glass, their concussions rattling the house’s front rooms. Hill was in the shared office space, in a thin red dress, puttering around on her computer. She heard screams from the other rooms. Then, the buzzing of a drone, as the police flew a quadcopter in through the splintered doorframe. A voice from the drone shrieked out, telling the residents of the house to come out with their hands up. Hill was terrified. She edged out of the door and immediately stared down a wall of gun barrels, masked agents screaming orders, the drone screaming in the air behind her.
" 'I remember thinking, ‘If I don’t do exactly what I’m told for the next minute of my life I’m going to die right now,' Hill says.
Through its loudspeaker, the #drone called repeatedly for one name: '#BenjaminSong.' Song wasn’t in the house, and no one inside knew them by that name. To Hill and her chosen family — an eclectic mix of personalities who lived together in what they called the '#BigGayHouse' — Song was 'Champagne,' a #genderfluid, politically #radical #activist who had, the night before, led a group to a demonstration outside of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility near #PrairielandTX. The protest, on July 4, 2025, was loosely organized in a collection of local activism group chats, and attracted a few dozen attendees, all of whom had their own idea of what they wanted to accomplish. Many, like Hill, planned a '#NoiseDemo,' or a loud protest involving fireworks and loud chants, aimed at disrupting the guards’ routine and letting the detainees inside know that they had supporters outside the fence."

"A #Salvadoran immigrant who was being held at a troubled federal detention center in Newark died during the weekend, according to the city’s mayor and Senator Andy Kim.
"Federal officials confirmed the death of the man, who was being held at the detention center, Delaney Hall, to Mr. Kim’s office, according to the senator’s spokeswoman. Ras Baraka, the city’s mayor, identified the detainee as #EdwinJovannyLopezCornejo.
" 'In less than a year, yet another family is forced to endure the unimaginable loss of a loved one while in custody at Delaney Hall,' Mr. Baraka said in a statement.
In December, #JeanWilsonBrutus, 41, died after a medical emergency, federal officials said at the time. Delaney Hall was reopened last year to accommodate President Trump’s expanding immigration crackdown."Officials with the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which oversee Delaney Hall, did not immediately respond to questions about Mr. #LopezCornejo’s death. A spokeswoman for the Newark Department of Public Safety directed inquiries to the Justice Department, which did not immediately respond.
"Katey Sabo, a spokeswoman for Mr. Kim, a New Jersey Democrat, said that officials at the ICE field office in Newark confirmed Monday to the senator’s office that a Delaney Hall detainee had died in federal custody.

WASHINGTON (AP) — "Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 10,000 people over a five-day period at the end of June, marking a major push by the agency tasked with carrying out the Trump administration’s mass deportations agenda.
"The arrest numbers, obtained from a person familiar with the information who spoke anonymously to discuss data that has not been publicly released, comes after the agency shifted its approach from high-profile arrest sweeps in major American cities to quieter ways to reach President Donald Trump’s deportation goals.
"The figures indicate that while the administration is no longer cracking down on individual cities, the arrests continue and are surging.
"The total number of arrests during the five-day period starting Friday and ending Tuesday translates into roughly 2,000 arrests per day. It was not clear where the arrests had taken place.
"The spike in arrests was first reported by The New York Times.
“Since Day One, DHS law enforcement has been delivering on President Trump’s promise to the American people to arrest and deport criminal illegal aliens including murderers, rapists, pedophiles [START WITH THE WHITE HOUSE!!!], gang members [#NeoNazis?], and terrorists [Blackwater?],” said the Department of Homeland Security in a statement. 'Our message is clear: if you come to our country illegally, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you.'
"The arrests news also comes as the number of people entered into ICE detention facilities climbed in June to roughly 39,000 after hovering around 30,000 per month since February, according to information obtained by The Associated Press.
"ICE doesn’t publicly release arrest data, making exact comparisons with previous periods difficult. But according to data provided to UC Berkeley’s Deportation Data Project and analyzed by The Associated Press, 2,000 arrests per day would mark a sharp increase over previous periods."

MEXICO CITY (AP) — "Mexico will request criminal charges over 17 Mexicans who died in ICE custody or during immigration enforcement operations by the #Trump administration, officials said Thursday.
"Mexican Foreign Minister #RobertoVelasco’s announcement Thursday morning further escalated tensions with the United States, as Mexico’s government has sharply criticized the treatment of its citizens under U.S. President Donald Trump’s push to increase deportations.
"The request, which carries no legal weight, will be submitted to state prosecutors’ offices and the U.S. Department of Justice, asking them to consider criminal charges against those responsible for the deaths.
"It will be accompanied by civil lawsuits against the companies that operate the #DetentionCenters in an effort to put an end to #HumanRightsViolations in those facilities, Velasco said.
"President #ClaudiaSheinbaum said Thursday that Mexico decided to “move beyond diplomatic channels” and escalate its complaints after an ICE agent killed Mexican citizen #LorenzoSalgadoAraujo in Houston this week. The sale closed on July 2, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, with the federal government paying $739.2 million for the 1,994-bed Otay Mesa facility and $732.6 million for the newly-opened 2,560-bed California City facility."CoreCivic said in a news release that it expects to continue running the day-to-day operations of both facilities under existing management contracts with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The company acknowledged in its filing that the terms of those contracts could be renegotiated now that the federal government owns both properties outright.
