Southbank, Brisbane, May 2015. The floating lotus arrangement at the Buddha Birth Day Festival — someone's careful, sustained attention over hours before the gates opened. I photographed it in about thirty seconds.
There is a consistent disproportion in event photography between the effort that produces something and the time it takes to photograph it. The photograph holds the care. It cannot hold the hours.

While I was out foraging, the garden had a visitor from another planet. Well, it looks like it could be from another planet, but it's just a caterpillar of an Old World Swallowtail (Papilio machaon). A species of butterfly that's beautiful (and reasonably big) also after metamorphosis.
