  1. Southbank, Brisbane, May 2015. The floating lotus arrangement at the Buddha Birth Day Festival — someone's careful, sustained attention over hours before the gates opened. I photographed it in about thirty seconds.
There is a consistent disproportion in event photography between the effort that produces something and the time it takes to photograph it. The photograph holds the care. It cannot hold the hours.

  2. While I was out foraging, the garden had a visitor from another planet. Well, it looks like it could be from another planet, but it's just a caterpillar of an Old World Swallowtail (Papilio machaon). A species of butterfly that's beautiful (and reasonably big) also after metamorphosis.

  3. More mementos from the garden, this time a June bug (Cotinis nitida) on my cardoon and a Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica) on oregano. All below shot using a full-frame prime Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM at various apertures between f/2-3.5.

  4. Some mementos from the garden today. Who said one can't do detail photography with an ultra-wide lens? All below shot handheld, using an ultra-wide full-frame prime (Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM) at fully open aperture.
