Buffed out gnarly scratches on 2006 #Vauxhall / #Opel #CorsaC (#Holden #Barina for those in Australia) using mini 12 cordless rotary #polisher, using combination of 30mm microfibre pad / heavy compound + 30mm wool pad and medium compound.
Always a bit nervous about a rotary but this smol one seems aggressive enough when used on higher speeds but not excessively heavy on 20 year old clearcoat (I checked before and after with paint depth gauge and it isn't taking off loads)
Some scratches are quite deep and couldn't be entirely removed, but they are way harder to see now especially from 1 metre distance

Both #Corsa (one of my work colleagues is using it from tomorrow) and #GolfGTI got a catwash using Carpro ECH2O rinseless wash ( hosepipe / pressure washer is currently verboten in Anglian Water region)
Tested Menzerna compounds and different pads on bonnet of Corsa (it gets used as a project car as I refine my #polishing skills, don't have to worry about burning clearcoat as much - its already knackered in parts although I have managed not to do that and hide a few more scratches)
GTI got a layer of #Sonax AutoHart wax (paint could do with some correction on non recently repainted side but I didn't have spoons today, there's hard limit to how much buffing I can do in one session)
At least only around 22°C today (otherwise #detailing is not fun as products dry too quick) #cars

lurked on a subreddit about car #detailing - was looking for info about polishing pads (having recently got two new cordless polishers) but there's now posts on there from middled aged Americans (not seniors) about how to clean up car upholstery because passenger has had an "accident" in the car from the nasty stomach bug many over there are getting..

Got #GolfGTI back on Wednesday - #bodyshop did decent enough job (whole entire side repainted, to deal also with rear right door & quarter panel with poor clearcoat from previous repair job (before I got the car)
*very* slight colour difference (rear bumper wasn't blended, which would have meant waiting few more days, pushed repair cost up to nearer a grand and still been visible *somewhere*), but not easily visible in daylight, you have to stare at #car whilst shining LED mechanics lamps on it in darkness to find it - none of my work colleagues noticed this repair, not even Romanian chap who is into #cars and #detailing
Now parking some distance down the road away from narrow bit outside my house with cars parked on other side (which led to this prang in the first place)

Cooler today (only 25°C) so did exterior #valet of #Vauxhall / #Opel #Corsa - started with #snowfoam mix of Autoglym Polar Blast + BiltHamber Surfex HD at 10% (wouldn't normally use anything as heavy as that but you can see state car was in previously!)
Contact wash with CarPro Reset. No pics of snowfoam due to working fast because heat!
Single stage polish with Koch Chemie 3.01 mild compound+carnuba #wax, cheap cordless DA (compatible with #Makita batteries) and orange pad that came with it.
I'm fairly new to machine #polishing and didn't use best technique and too much polish (though some on YT recommend keeping pad saturated when working in hot weather to prevent polish drying out, and this seemed to work, #bodywork on this #car far from perfect anyway!)

Took advantage of lighter evenings to clean piano black plastic and navi screen on centre console of #GolfGTI (I don't know why this piano black stuff became so popular since about 2016, it is a pain to keep clean).
Also cleaned steering wheel with leather cleaner (it gets shiny after a few months driving due to grease from hands, should have a matt finish)
At least its not too late so folk don't wonder "who on earth is honking a horn in the yard?" (horn works with ignition off, and its easy to press the horn ring when cleaning the steering wheel)

As usual a good in depth report from #ITV (who still excel at #crime reporting) - in which they confirm the lad had indeed been #hooning #cars that belonged to his customers, and worse, he didn't even have a valid #driving #licence or #insurance at the time!
He had tried to delete the videos, but the old bill must have put a #Cellebrite set on his phone - they've got a few of them and work with #AdastralPark for stuff like this, there's also a special #Cybercrime unit that #SuffolkConstabulary operate in some rural area like #Saxmundham
I counted 2 * #BMW, a #Mercedes #AMG and a #GolfR in the video (if you own one of these, be very careful who you trust with #detailing / #valeting or even any #repair work!)

Lad from (now closed) father and son #detailing / #valeting company in #Felixstowe #Suffolk got 4 years #prison for #hooning a customers car in a busy surburban street, and crashing in to a pedestrian leading to a #fatality (whilst this #sentence seems light, its due to a guilty plea at Crown Court (would have started at 10 years otherwise, reduced by 2 years due to offenders young age)
His own middle aged dad didn't set him a very good example and refused to communicate with or compensate the owner of the GTR that was crashed

"Cat wash" of #VW #GolfGTI with #KochChemie #RRW (Rapid Rinseless Wash) and just 8 litres of water (recovered from the condensate tank of the tumble dryer at my house!) - about as eco-friendly as you can get (also it is way too hot to be dealing with the pressure washer, multiple buckets etc using Anglian water at 300+ppm that will dry on the panels and leave waterspots everywhere)
Edit: The tyres were also treated to #Autoglym tyre dressing (the thick purple stuff) and plastic trims to "Vinyl and Rubber care"

Exterior #bodywork wasn't in too bad shape (a few touch up repairs have been done over the years, there's usual stone chips but the #car had recently had a machine polish (I could tell by the residue left in odd corners!) and paint wasn't badly swirled, only needed a rinseless wash, a bit of hand polishing and a single stage machine polish on the doors and bonnets to get good results.
#Exhaust tips had been neglected, managed to make them a bit better with fine steel wool (the brillo stuff with soap) -- some chrome plating has flaked due to carbon being baked on still doesn't look too bad.
Also cleaned up inside of petrol tank flap (something I'm likely to be seeing rather a lot of as this car is a tad more thirsty than my last one!) #detailing #valeting

New whip, who dis? 2018 #VW #GolfGTI - Typ 5G Mk 7,5 facelift - 2,0L, 230PS, 6 speed #DSG 'box in Tornado Red (nice solid colour) ordered last Monday, delivered Wednesday from London - got it a day early as I said to lads "don't bother valeting it, will do that myself" (they are into #detailing themselves)
Spent most of the weekend tidying up exterior (interior still needs more work) and getting used to extra power compared to previous car (I have that standalone #TomTom on the dash not even as much for navigation but as warning not to exceed speed limits, is easy to do (and expensive here)
Always wanted one since my youth but couldn't afford it then and didn't have licence anyway (sorry Greta, although I did at least go 30 years without driving)

#KochChemie #RRW (rapid #rinseless wash) works well (I had over last 2 weeks also done a single stage paint correction with the DA polisher I bought a few years back but hadn't had the spoons to use (felt like I was shaken to bits!) & topped with #BiltHamber Double Speed-wax) - today a random postie delivering a parcel to my office noticed me cleaning interior (as I'd hauled out everything for MOT earlier today) and complimented me on how good the car looked! #detailing #valeting #cars

Was quite impressed with this supplier of #detailing products based in #Yorkshire - they padded the box so it survived the trip down south with DPD (who are fairly good round here) and I even got a handwritten note of thanks for the order from a real human (in spite of it being a relatively small order).
They are also managing to get #KochChemie and #Sonax in spite of #Brexit selling it slightly cheaper than other suppliers and managed to make next day delivery without excuses..

#AbsoluteUnit of a #PressureWasher custom built for a #detailing garage in #Guguram #Haryana #India (the business has good reviews and is tagged as LGBT+ friendly on Google - prices are similar to or slightly cheaper than in the UK, but few detailers in Blighty can afford such kit (or even have both a shop *and* a three phase supply). 120 bar output, the dude says you have to steady yourself for the recoil when using it!

Today’s task: redo the ceramic coating on my car, which will be the first time I’ve tackled such a thing. Fingers crossed for not making a mess of applying it since it lasts about three years 😬
