Kings and despots historically used spending and taxes (tariffs) to control their subjects, to reward loyalty and punish dissent.
Tariffs are a means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition would-be-king Trump for relief.
He is using access to government funds to bully universities, law firms and state and local governments into loyalty pledges.
Relief will come to industry and institutions that pledge loyalty (fealty).
Trumps strategy. is from the playbook for democratically elected leaders who want to stay in power forever.

Today is Pearl Harbor Day, that event took place 83 years ago today. The event even seemed long ago when I was a child because it didn't happen in my lifetime. It is good that we remember such days though because as noted by the American philosopher George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." After World War II, the United States helped to rebuild the countries of its enemies and eventually they became our allies. While in the east, the Soviet Union subjugated the countries that fell under its control. causing a rift in the world order and the cold war began. Beware of despots.

#Trump's latest threats to place opponents in #jail, including #PresidentBiden, fit with the limitless nature of #psychopaths. Lacking a conscience or #morality to limit his #sadism, and believing in his worth above all others, leads Trump to believe he has the right to #destroy anyone who does not submit to him.
The sad history of people democratically electing #despots like Trump is that they don't realize the level of #malignant #psychology behind the #populist face.

I know it's a really weird idea, especially if you personally aren't currently being genocided by that particular regime.
The Polish freedom fighters had a word for this odd phenomenom though. They even founded a rather successful labour union named after that concept. Without #solidarity between peoples, would the #soviet #russian #dictatorship have crumbled when it did?
Another thing is that the various #despots and #authoritarians are increasingly networking and joining forces to fight the evils of #democracy and #humanrights globally. Aiding, abetting or doing business with any of them makes all of them more powerful.
