I need money, and I wish I knew how to obtain it. If I don't have money, it affects my life trajectory. Examples: missed college events, emails not reaching my inbox because I missed a bill payment, my cats did not eat for days, and I can't buy anything to quench my thirst despite being surrounded by many shops.

  2. Desperation

Breakfast time in the old kitchen being renovated and I get a pleading look from the Collie as the Tabby muscles in. Have you ever seen such desperation. And this is the cat who@positively loves him!

The cat had already been fed, but likes a bohemian diet…. I bribed the cat to leave him alone.

  3. A quotation from Thoreau

It is characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American philosopher and writer
Walden; or, Life in the Woods, ch. 1 “Economy” (1854)

  4. A quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt

When I see someone who looks fairly desperate, I would rather give money, on the chance of sometimes giving unwisely, than to withhold it from some one person who might need a helping hand and who deserves it.

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962) First Lady of the US (1933–1945), politician, diplomat, activist

  5. A quotation from Bill Watterson

CALVIN: Isn’t it sad how some people’s grip on their lives is so precarious that they’ll embrace any preposterous delusion, rather than face an occasional bleak truth?

Bill Watterson (b. 1958) American cartoonist
    Calvin and Hobbes (1987-11-24)

  6. A quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt

Man cannot live without hope. If it is not engendered by his own convictions and desires, it can easily be fired from without, and by the most meretricious and empty of promises.

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962) First Lady of the US (1933–1945), politician, diplomat, activist
Essay (1961-04), “What Has Happened to the American Dream?” Atlantic Monthly

  7. OMG Zelensy is really turning into a sad joke:

#Ukrainian President Volodymyr #Zelensky told #CNN it is "100% facts" that #Russia supply #Iran with Russian-manufactured Shahed drones to attack US bases.

Iran pioneered the kamikaze drone technology and transferred it to Russia early in 2023 to support its war against Ukraine. Russia currently has the capacity to produce 100s of Shahed drones a day.

James Howell (c. 1594 - 1666) Welsh historian and writer

  10. A quotation from Thoreau

Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American philosopher and writer
Walden; or, Life in the Woods, ch. 18 "Conclusion" (1854)

  11. Refactored Analysis of TikTok's Content Moderation

The #TikTok CEO's comments seem to confirm my suspicion: the #platform is designed to deliver #content without adequately filtering for #extremistviewpoints during its rapid-fire serving process. While a faster #review is technically possible when a #video is uploaded, the current #moderationprocess is clearly insufficient before #content is served to the public.

This #system works exactly as #badactors need it to. They abuse the platform to spread #radicalizedcontent, and #TikTok appears to do little about it. This is less a failure of #proactive effort and more a consequence of the platform's core #design.

    The Algorithmic "#RabbitHole"

The system's priorities appear to be purely #political and #engagement-driven. If a user engages with one piece of #extremistcontent—even through an unrelated #hashtag—the #algorithm starts pushing a flood of similar extremist material to them. This creates a confusing array of user profiles that engage with conflicting #ideologies (e.g., both #extremistright and #extremistleft content), making it difficult to pin down a person's exact #politicalalignment.

I believe the #AI is designed to profile every possible vulnerability—#loneliness, #desperation, #politicalviews—to keep users #engaged for as long as possible. The system operates without any discernible #ethicallogic. If ethical guardrails exist, the #AI certainly doesn't appear to be learning in a safe or positive way.
