  2. Desert varnish (Deserts 🏜️)

Desert varnish or rock varnish is an orange-yellow to black coating found on exposed rock surfaces in arid environments. Desert varnish is approximately one micrometer thick and exhibits nanometer-scale layering. Rock rust and desert patina are other terms which are also used for the condition, but less often.

  3. Dakar Rally (Deserts 🏜️)

The Dakar Rally or simply "The Dakar", formerly known as the Paris–Dakar Rally, is an annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation. The rally is an off-road endurance event. The terrain that the competitors traverse is much tougher than that used in conventional rallying, and the vehicles used are typically true off-...

  4. Me and the @druid went to #Abergavenny today.

    It was far too #peoply.
Don't these people have other places to go to? 😆

Poor things, they mostly looked lost.

Anyway, much mooching occurred and a few quality items have been acquired for the good of posterity...

You can never have enough old fashioned glass #jelly moulds, just in case I was forced to cater for 356 young people with a dire need for #wobbly and #fruity #deserts.

It could happen...best to be prepared. 😀

  6. For those who know anything about ants, here's a weird one: Lasius xerophilus.

Most Lasius species live in north temperate/boreal forests. This one? Sand dunes in North American deserts. A total oddball, and unexpected, living alongside classic desert species like Pogonomyrmex harvester ants.

Photographed at Monahans Sand Dunes, Texas.
