I wrote the paragraph below on my personal website, would you believe it, almost 25 years ago in 2001 (thank you, Wayback Machine).
"The Conservative party, under a new leadership following their 1997 humiliation, are desperately trying to reposition themselves. This has resulted in increasingly isolationist and xenophobic policies. Also, they have developed the habit of jumping on every populist bandwagon that comes along, irrespective of whether it is in the long-term interests of the country."
Nothing changes, but I'd happily settle for the Tories of 2001 over the current Labour party. If only I'd known back then what was to come.

I keep reading news articles online where it works just as well if you substitute ' Hitler' for 'Trump', 'Sunak', "Netanyahu" and the rest of their cadre.
Doing the same thing over and over and not learning from it is the definition of stupidity.
