  1. The above article is from 2018 and nothing has changed, only gotten worse

This one is from June this year:

Hundreds of students at Ireland's third-level institutions are homeless

“No student should have to choose between a roof over their head and their degree,”

  2. After 10 years renting a place then 💥 Eviction! the stress, facing impossible moving arrangements, the upheaval, the emotional burden... I'm not religious but for the first time ever find myself wishing for a miracle

  3. 2/2 The resulting housing squeeze has left seasonal workers, including waiters, bar staff, chefs, and musicians, unable to find accommodation. In the midst of a housing crisis, a record 17,548 people, including 11,944 adults and 5,604 children, are accessing state-funded emergency accommodation across Ireland.

  4. Via Rob Cross: Ireland’s housing system is in disrepair, largely due to ineffective government policies to regulate short-term letting on platforms such as Airbnb and Booking. com.

My graphic shows 21,913 entire homes listed on Airbnb’s short-term letting platform in Ireland. Within Ireland’s Gaeltacht areas in Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Meath, Mayo, and Waterford, there are 6,201 entire-home Airbnb listings.

  5. Debtors prison is just one example of many vacant and derelict buildings in Dublin that could be community spaces, museums, arts spaces, even homes or commercial spaces. We need ambition, we need someone who will fight to put these old buildings back into use and to breathe life into the city again. I know I have that fight in me. If you vote for me on May 22nd I’ll get to work straight away on fighting for the Dublin we deserve.

  6. Legend!

"Homelessness campaigner Martin Leahy has brought the curtain down on his Thursday protest outside Leinster House after 200 weeks.

The Cork musician has sung his song entitled 'Everyone should have a home' at the gates of the national parliament each Thursday lunchtime for the last four years."

  7. New apartments, empty shops

The quiet scandal of Ireland’s modern dereliction

Jude Sherry and Dr Frank O’Connor look at how empty ground-floor retail units are becoming the newest blight on our urban centres.

  8. It isn't a #HousingCrisis, "crisis" leaves the ones with power to do something about it off the hook. It is a Project and is going as planned. #DerelictIreland

The housing shortage is used by the far-right to scapegoat immigrants (inciting violence!) when in reality this issue is decades old. Soooo many ramifications stem from this cruelty.

  9. Cork City’s derelict buildings reveal true cost of housing inequality

Dereliction crisis exposes deep-rooted inequality — but a growing movement is showing how community action can drive change

  10. No European city would tolerate the decay and dereliction visible in Dublin.
All of Ireland’s cities and larger towns need positive urban planning. That needs a revolution in government thinking.

  11. Is it true the number of landlords is falling?

"It is clear the overall number of landlords does not appear to be in decline.

However, the gap between the rental properties available and what is needed in the market remains as large as ever."

  12. 'In a housing crisis, this government is leaving thousands of buildings to rot'

A grim indictment of Ireland’s political policies is the scale of dereliction of buildings throughout the country, writes Dr Frank O’Connor.

  13. If housing is the election issue then dereliction should be near the top of that list. Irish dereliction is the result of failed political policies, say Jude Sherry and Dr Frank O’Connor. #HousingCrisis #DerelictIreland #Housing #IrishMasto #Mastodaonie #mastodonie #Ireland

  14. New York Times uses Cork ghost estate to highlight 'broken' Irish housing system

There are an estimated 17,000 empty or derelict housing units in Cork, according to the Central Statistics Office #DerelictIreland #Cork #HousingCrisis #CorkCity #Ireland #IrishMasto #mastodaoine #mastodonie www-corkbeo-ie.cdn.ampproject.

  15. Surely it's possible for the #IrishGovernment to end the housing crisis by a combination of a stonking tax on unused buildings and sites, and a stonking grant to buyers for remaking the same buildings into cosy homes? #HousingCrisis #DerelictIreland google.com/maps/@53.3024285,-8

  16. This long derelict building in Skibereen is an unfortunate eyesore that’s surrounded by a lively town, and shops and buildings decorated for the Christmas season. It stands opposite the entrance to the lovely Abbeystrewry Church and nearby Aldi.

I went back in time through Google Street View, and it has been abandoned and derelict since at least 2009! What a waste.

  17. There’s no ceiling on this building. For the younger reader, watch. 🙂

  18. Thirty thousand households in Ireland, or just under one in 10 of every renting household, were evicted in the past three years alone. Do we have a government at all? It's time for a referendum on rent caps theguardian.com/commentisfree/ #DerelictIreland

  19. The word JUSTICE painted on the side of the hoarding surrounding the derelict site on Sullivan’s Quay in Cork seems appropriate.

So many homeless in the city, and this huge area is still a heap of rubble in the middle of the city. Not that whatever gets built there will help the homeless. It was supposed to be the site of a glass covered hotel AFAIR.
