    The Hind Rajab Foundation Demands Immediate Arrest of Major General Ghassan Alian in #Rome


    Major General Ghassan Alian, Head of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), is currently in Rome, Italy. The Hind Rajab Foundation ( #HRF) has filed cases with the International Criminal Court ( #ICC) and Italian authorities, urging his immediate arrest for ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐จ๐œ๐ข๐๐ž, ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐š๐ ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐š๐ซ ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ. Alian, who publicly referred to Palestinians in Gaza as "human animals," has no immunity from prosecution.

    Time is of the essence to ensure accountability for his actions.


    As head of COGAT since April 2021, Alian has overseen the administration of the West Bank and the long-standing blockade of Gaza. Following October 7, 2023, he supervised and enforced a total siege on Gaza, cutting off essential resources such as food, water, electricity, and medical supplies.     COGAT is an arm of the Israeli Defense Ministry responsible for implementing government policies in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Under Alianโ€™s leadership, COGAT coordinated military actions that targeted civilian infrastructure and imposed collective punishment on Gazaโ€™s population.     New research shows that the birdโ€™s hissing call acts as a warning when other โ€”including human huntersโ€”are approaching. In studies conducted in #SouthAfrica, they found that #rhinos without #oxpeckers on their backs only noticed an approaching human 23% of the time, whereas those carrying the birds detected the nearby person 100% of the time, and from much farther away than those attentive rhinos without oxpeckers to warn them.
