Following a period of democratic setbacks, Polish civil society and political leaders embrace deliberation and citizens' engagement as a path to recovery. Organizations that had been active for over a decade before this political change cultivated the foundation for a new civic culture that drives this transition. Thanks to them Poland is leading the way with the most citizens' assemblies organised in the Central Eastern European region.

The second day of our Autumn School couldn't start with a more important subject: How to design the governance of a Citizens' Assembly?

Jane Suiter will guide us through the Irish cases. She has been involved with all the Irish deliberative processes as a member of the expert advisory group (CA 2022; Irish Constitutional Convention 2012-2014) and is a founder member of We the Citizens (2011), Ireland’s first deliberative experiment.

With citizens recruited, a well-defined remit, and the structure in place, Ione Ardaiz Osacar will explore the meandering road of deliberation and consensus building to reach actionable recommendations. Demands that are to be considered and appropriately addressed by the commissioning authority, a fundamental part of maximizing the impact of the assembly, presented by Mark Hessellund Beanland.
