Wars, displacement, political crises: for decades, there has been little respite in the Middle East.
Many are asking: is there any way out of this perpetual state of crisis? And if so, what might a social model look like that does not constantly reproduce conflict?
The Kurdish freedom movement is putting forward a model for this:

The truth is, it doesn't matter whether Netanyahu is dead or alive, or even if Trump suddenly dies one of these days. As long as Israel and other settler-colonial states are still standing and operational, the global order within the exploitative systems of hierarchy and extraction will remain shackling us and corrupting the earth. All nation‑states should dissolve, actually.
This system has long failed to humanise women and give us freedom, and as a result, it has failed humanity as a whole.
Liberation begins with women's life and freedom.

🚨🚨URGENT CALL FOR AID🚨🚨
$855 left to finally meet the goal of $2,600 for rent and essentials (meds, utilities, groceries, and more).
Please support my mutual aid request however you're able. I don't want to keep withdrawing before it even reaches the rent goal. It's no longer an option when it's already mid-December like this.
If you’re in a position to support, a financial contribution would be life-saving.
If you can't contribute financially, boosting my post greatly helps too 🙂↕️💜
Thank you so much to everyone who's shown up for me in their capacity.

Wait..
The kurdish settlement area "belongs" to three (hostile) nation states: Iraq, Syria, Turkey.
Did the kurdish people walk 15 steps ahead to see what people need first?!
Nope, they do the exact opposite.
They organize what the population needs first, and have no intention to build a kurdish nation state.
Through #democraticconfederalism the #Rojava area is the most safe space for all religious minorities in the whole region.
Not through #nationalism.

Hi @vijayprashad I am LoSkietto, precarious free-lance journalist and libertarian socialist militant. I'm still waiting for your kind answer on #MarxismLeninism and #0C4LAN. #Marxism is fundamental to fight #Capitalism, but without analyzing the roots and the structure of power it can be exploited to create a new form of imperialism and to oppress.

> Through.. Öcalan we.. see.. devastation.
Kurdish people have suffered and learn.. the tumultuous and dramatic history of the relationship between the Kurds and the Turkish state.
> The book also dives into the theories developed by Öcalan that continue to influence.. struggle today..
The second part of the book gives us a wider consideration of the issues and policies around women's freedom, #DemocraticConfederalism.. -

Enhancing diverse democracy: NE Syria’s new Social Contract
Like Rousseau’s theoretical proposal, the real-world ‘social contract’ based on Öcalan’s ideas is, in many ways, an attempt to reckon with severe external and internal social pressures and halt society’s steady rush toward inequality, stratification, vi

I first learned about #DemocraticConfederalism from an Astolfo meme but, the more that I think about it, the more that I want a #TTRPG setting that has it as the dominant form of government in the region you play.
It's a system of government that rejects the nation-state on principle as the tool capitalists, fascists, bureaucrats, and socialists use to oppress people, subverting the will of the people. I don't want to go too far into the details but the basic idea is that the highest persistent form of government is a town council. For any projects that require more than that, ad hoc committees are created that neighboring communities can vote to join.
An example Öcalan gives is that if two cities want a road between them, they can form a road connection committee composed of representatives from the two cities. A nearby city along the route might vote that they want to join it so their city will be connected. Then the committee votes on terms to allow them to join, ideally something like a lump sum up front then an ongoing commitment as long as they are members in exchange for full membership in the committee. At any time, any town can vote to leave at which point, the services that only benefit them (e.g. road maintenance on the last mile) ends.
But, critically, that road connection committee is independent of the aqueduct connection committee and can have a different membership. It's even independent from both local roads and other road connection committees that the city voted to join. As an individual, you always know that your local town council is the contact point when you have complaints and you retain the right to vote with your feet if you are unhappy (there are some mutually agreed upon principles that all towns must obey to confederalate).
I like it for a fantasy #RPG campaign setting because it gives you hooks to lots of regional organizations while towns still have a lot of freedom to vary widely. You'll have some that are almost exclusively focused on local issues; some where they invest heavily in academic networks; some that favor transportation for all the tradespeople; and some where weirdos set up compounds. It's a great planet of the hats system.
But it also insulates the setting from some of the problems with the weird capitalist theocratic feudalism so common in the genre. There's no king that a high level player can kill. There's a clearly defined place in the law for how adventurers guilds work (they're hired by a committee). If they try to go despotic somewhere they have taken a town council, committees their town is in will see other communities vote to leave.
Over the course of an adventure, as the party moves around (or if they stay still too long), you'll keep encountering new people and factions you haven't heard of that provide opportunities or threats. And you can focus on lots of different adventure types simply by picking which committees you work with. -
Since 2012, Kurdish-led North and East Syria is the largest example of a society run by local democratic councils. aka Rojava, it's a women's-led revolution, with around 5 million people from a mosaic of ethnicities.
