As a friend, I would warn people not to post on social media or even touch their phones right after receiving momentous news.
As a reporter, however, I love it when people post impulsively. This story hinges on a rage-post that was subsequently abbreviated. Otherwise, the parties were close-lipped.

A local defense attorney stopped by the #DemingHeadlight to chew the fat. He asked me why I write about "human trafficking charges" when the statute refers to alien smuggling.
Because I don't like calling people #aliens and avoid doing so.
I don't like referring to people as "#felons," either. I've committed misdemeanors, yet I'm not labeled a "misdemeanant" for life.

A broadband project announced yesterday involves installing 49 miles of fiber optic in #LunaCounty #NewMexico, bringing service to #ColumbusNM and remote areas south of #DemingNM.
822 locations sounds like a modest number but it belies the geographic scope of the undertaking, mostly covered with federal #COVID19 money and some matching money by the provider.
And they say they'll have it done in a year, which is bold.

New from the #DemingHeadlight: A #ForestService road leading to a popular trail in the #Gila National Forest in #KingstonNM now has a locked gate closing off access to the Aldo Leopold Wilderness boundary.
The new owner of a private parcel of adjacent to the forest has closed off a swath of #publiclands, infuriating local residents while local and federal officers say there may or may not be any recourse.

CW: Columbus NM in financial trouble
The village of #ColumbusNM #NewMexico is in trouble. Trustees have permitted management at town hall to deteriorate to the point that basic services are dangerously underfunded. The village's annual audit presented 28 findings with several material weaknesses, and has not even been discussed in open session.
The village's credit rating and access to capital funds could be in jeopardy next.

Sunday morning in #localnews: I am home with my kids while my wife works her Sunday morning job. People contact the #DemingHeadlight via FB messenger wondering what’s going on at the IHOP. That’s how I learn something is going on at the IHOP. And I have to wait because I’m not bringing my toddler to the scene of a fire or crime or whatever the heck. Local emergency agencies don’t like us and don’t offer information easily. So I go when I can and report what I find out when I can.
