Someone I know is taking the lock from their side gate into the locksmith to get it keyed.
And they'll phone the Australian National Dementia Helpline and ask about the legalities of locking doors & gates to stop an elderly person putting themself in grave danger.

They're not feeling good.

I'm thinking that being prevented from going out into the world is a significant change.
It could be put into an Advanced Care Directive.

The sub-continent provided a wonderful Good Samaritan. Australia is fortunate to have good people.

Future plans will NOT rely on SMS messages being received. Phone calls will be needed.
Google Maps and Streetview will not be relied on. Knowledgeable locals will.
The judgement of an Elderly Friend around "The Passage Of Time" & "How Long To Wait Before Enquiring" will be relied on less.
Safe And Sound will be used.
A card with a home address will be in a pocket.

And I hear the facility is planning on stopping the new locked-ward resident having a mobile phone.

These day's removing a person's mobile phone looks like acting to socially isolate them.

This does not appear to be consistent with maintaining existing skills nor with supporting the resident in maintaining friendships & relationships.

Both of these are, AIUI, effective in slowing the progression of dementia.

Today’s small moment: while browsing Amazon for games and puzzles suited for someone with dementia, I stumbled across Rack-O — the classic “rack ’em & score” card game.

Instantly transported back to the 1970s, when my friends and I played it endlessly. We absolutely loved that game, and seeing it again brought a simple, unexpected smile.

I've been looking for a short YT video showing that the way carers act and respond can help someone with #Dementia have a better life.
And just as importantly that the carer can have a better life too.

I haven't found one.

There are long ones from which I can, with years of related experience, draw out the basic idea.
And there are short ones. I find the tone of the short ones I've looked at ... unattractive.

If anybody has suggestions, I won't criticise.
