This is something I need to do for my (minor but obvious) social media addiction.

The positive outcome of spending less time on social media? Having more time to do other, more interesting things.

There are only so many hours in a day and only so many days in our lives. When I think of how much time I wasted on Twitter and Facebook back when my addiction was very bad, I want to cry.

Thoughts on Xitter

I (sadly) still see people posting links to X here on Mastodon, even if their intentions are good. For example, if someone is trying to draw attention to something terrible posted over on Xitter, or to share an important news story that they happened to read there. (First of all though, why are they *still* using Xitter?)

ANYWAY… even if you have the best of intentions, please stop driving traffic over to Xitter! All you need to do is either grab a screenshot and post it here, or copy the link to the *actual* story that was posted on Xitter and post *that* here.

You can still draw attention to things that were posted on Xitter without having to drive traffic there, nor drive traffic *through* there to the actual desired news site.

(P.S. This also applies to anything Meta. Let’s stop feeding those beasts with traffic and links. That can be siphoned off, and we can still discuss them as needed without inadvertently helping bad actors.)

So, ist wohl an der Zeit, #LinkedIn den Rücken zu kehren.

Ich setze heute nochmal ein letztes Posting ab, um meine Kontakte dort darüber zu informieren, dass ich dort in Zukunft nicht mehr zu finden sein werde - und dann wird der Account zum Jahreswechsel eingemottet.

In einer werbefreien social media-Umgebung leben zu können, ist mir sehr viel wert.
Dafür finanziere ich gern meine eigene Instanz.

Ich sehe regelmäßig, was für einen Werbemüll meine Frau auf Facebook präsentiert bekommt.
Und auf #Threads wird es wohl kaum besser werden.

Ich verstehe, dass Firmen und Instutionen aktuell nur schwer auf #X / #Instagram / #TikTok / #Facebook / #Threads / #Bluesky / #Youtube etc. verzichten können.
Aber ich kann.
