This is something I need to do for my (minor but obvious) social media addiction.
The positive outcome of spending less time on social media? Having more time to do other, more interesting things.
There are only so many hours in a day and only so many days in our lives. When I think of how much time I wasted on Twitter and Facebook back when my addiction was very bad, I want to cry.

@IndyRichard @outer The problem is that although those of us with a functioning brain understand this and will do what we need to do, we are a minority. I am astounded by the general stupidity and ignorance -- two different but related things -- of the general public, which seems content to watch ad-filled, fact-optional content fed to them based on what an algorithm calculates should keep them focused on their screens the longest. #DeleteFacebook #DeleteTikTok #DeleteX

Be very mindful about the content you consume online.
You might think you are above its negative influence on your mood and thoughts, but you aren't. Nobody is.
The content you consume influences the way you think over time. Even if you are on a platform to fight the opposition, what the algorithm is feeding you there will have an influence on yourself over time.
Be careful what you feed to your brain.

I avoid Tik Tok because I hate centralized big tech surveillance capitalism companies and already have enough pangs of guilt about not being able to fully unplug from Facebook (and until this year Twitter). However we've known they have been as or more sketchy with their practices than Facebook for some time. The magnitude of how much worse they have been comes to light with each passing day. If I were you I would never install their app (or any of these companies' apps) on your device. I wouldn't create an account. ...and related to my prior post by the end of this year you will have anti-democracy people making the decisions on this stuff on all major social media platforms: Meta/Facebook (see Kaplan, Clegg, Andreesen, Thiel), Twitter (Musk and his band of alt-right tech bro assholes including Thiel again), Tik Tok (god knows what nefarious shit they have planned in collusion with the Chinese government), and then the willful ignorance of others like YouTube who let this shit run wild too. Secondary media is no better sadly, just check out the amount of insanity on Rumble, PeerTube, etc. along with the special built right wing social media systems. The anti-democracy movement is so thoroughly flooding the zone it is inescapable at this point. Most of the world are acting like lambs being led to the slaughter. Disheartening. The headline is misleading. The mayhem is already going on and they are doing so little to stop the same election fraud bullshit we've now had repeatedly to the point where just typing "election fraud" leads to MAGA sites pushing the same conspiracies as usual. I've been saying for awhile that TikTok is as bad or worse than Facebook. They just didn't have the numbers to bring the adverse attention to themselves yet. I guess we are finally getting there. I need to check to make sure that the between all the Firefox browser, Duck Duck Go Privacy Essentials, and Facebook Container tech I use to eliminate this tracking by Facebook works against these TikTok exploits.
