DeKalb County, Georgia is named after Johann de Kalb:

"In July 1777, de Kalb returned to North America with his protégé, the Marquis de Lafayette, to join the Continental Army. Before sailing from France, he had been promised commission as a major general; he was now disappointed and angry to learn that the Continental Congress was not inclined to honor this promise, but with Lafayette's influence he was appointed to the rank on September 5, 1777, which he learned of on the road to return to France.

"De Kalb was at Valley Forge for most of the winter of 1777–1778, commanding a division of Patterson's and Learned's Brigades. He also wrote letters of introduction for John Adams to the French court."

These 'jury duty' scammers called me a few months ago and kept me on the phone longer than I'd like to admit. Based on the story below, it sounds like the authorities are starting to take it seriously; the Sheriff's office did not seem concerned when I reported it.

What I did not know at the time was that the scammers had called many of my neighbors that same day and were apparently camped out at a local shopping center, trying to get us to meet them there.

Tomorrow (Sunday Sept 29) is moving day for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta - ambulances will be driving sick kids to their new building on N. Druid Hills Road. Please avoid driving on that route (described below) if possible, starting at 7:30 AM.

“Children’s is asking for the public’s help by yielding to ambulances along the move route from Egleston Hospital to Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Move Day. The route includes Uppergate Drive to Starvine to Clairmont Rd to 1-85 Frontage Road. Approximately 30 patients from the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Scottish Rite Hospital will move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital. They will travel from Meridian Mark to Johnson Ferry Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road to GA-400 to I-85N to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.”

I encountered this neat #CitizenScience thing on my #run today that lets you help monitor natural environments. A bracket is set up facing an area to monitor. Passers-by put their smartphone in the bracket and shoot a photo, and then email it to the address provided. It is then incorporated into a #timelapse.
