  1. Good morning Fedi friends. It wasn’t exactly a cold night last night, 8c when I got up. There’s cloud around but there’s also sunshine & it’s actually getting up to 20c which will be nice.
Picked up a large bowl of #Feijoas when I got home yesterday & more have dropped this morning. Had some with yoghurt for dessert last night, but the dehydrator will be coming out again later today. I’m going to peel them this time, time consuming but I think it’ll be well worth it.
Slept so much more comfortably in my own bed last night. My shoulders don’t hurt anymore & my back feels a lot better too. I walked a lot over the last couple of days so a day off any exercise is planned. Rest & reset.
A person is come from a local maintenance firm to assess my shower stall this morning. Fingers crossed things get done this time. After they leave I am planning to take some lunch down to my daughter who is studying today & have a catch up chat.
    Wishing everyone a happy #Monday, hope the sun shines for you 🌻 ☀️. #Weather #Feijoas #Dehydrating #Home #Family.

  2. Today is dehydrating and semi-prepping things for this week. I plan to sterilize some jars as well, mostly thinking of pickles and starting my sourdough starter. Cooked like, half a kilo of beans yesterday, so now I get to pulverize some of that for molletes tonight and maybe convince my other half to try a bean dip. Gringo recipes don't always go well with Mexican taste buds, like the beans I made for Christmas almost a decade ago.

  3. #Rotavirus causes severe #dehydrating #diarrhea in infants and young children, contributing to more than 128,500 deaths per year globally despite widespread vaccination efforts. Although rotavirus is more prevalent in developing countries, declining #vaccination uptake in the United States has resulted in increasing cases in recent years.

  4. So yeah, I have cast-iron spice grinder and a food dehydrator on hand, and I plan on making my own paprika powder! I just need to make sure I wear gloves when I handle them, since they are on the spicy side of the paprika spectrum!

How to Make #Paprika at Home – Paprika Powder

    by Robin, April 30, 2023

"Are you looking to spice up your cooking game? Look no further than your very own garden, or local farmer’s market, for some fresh paprika peppers! Before you go dicing and sautéing these beauties, have you considered dehydrating paprika peppers for even more intense flavor and preservation?

"Let’s make paprika powder from dehydrated paprika peppers. Not only will you be able to enjoy the rich, smoky taste of paprika all year round, but you’ll also be reducing food waste and saving some cash in the process. So let’s get ready to turn up the heat and add some sizzle to our meals with this easy and fun dehydrating project!"

  5. CW: Food, but only apples

    #Apples #WashingtonState #FujiApples #Dehydrating #DogTreats #ShopLocal #DexterKnives

Congratulations to First Fruit Farms apple growers in Washington State.

We got these fantastic Fuji apples at a case price of .88 cents a pound. (They were on sale at .99 cents a pound.)

We are dehydrating them to sell for dog treats, to raise money for Hands Helping Paws Project.

Smaller baking apples would dry better, but we couldn't pas sup the price. Shop local---this was a local IGA.

  6. This weekend’s experiment with the #dehydrator: summer squash chips! Slice thin, steam for a few minutes, let drain thoroughly, season, dehydrate in 135 for about 7 hours.

They’re very tasty but I think I’ll leave them in the steamer less long next time so that they don’t disintegrate quite as much before dehydrating.

  7. #dehydrating #pomelo skin in the sun, to make all natural indoor insect repellent. The other dried half is being made into pomelo salted candy peels.

  8. And the next ~1.5kg of apples are #dehydrating for more or less healthy snacks for the next few weeks ^^

Gala and one Granny Smith (because I was curious how that would taste as chips)

  9. I didn't know what else to do with them, except sew them together...and string them up to dry! 😆 #Peppers #dehydrating #Food #GrowYourOwn

  10. A little more than 1 kg of hot banana peppers split and mostly de-seeded went into the dehydrator.

6 lbs, 2.7 kg, tomatoes which was all of them, half dozen jalapenos, 2 big onions, half cup of chopped dry purple peppers, 1 small bulb of garlic chopped, and everything else made some salsa.

  11. @BoudetteGirl Not much sun, no paper on the ground involved.

Extended low temp dehydrating done, 1lb 4 oz or 590 grams of not-so-golden raisins or sultanas.

They are more dry than needed but it's hard to judge when warm so I let them go overnight again. 5 hours short of 6 full days on 110 - 120F / 43C - 49C heat in the dehydrator.

  16. Y'all, I think I over-dehydrated these!? 😬 My old dehydrator only has one setting "on/off" and I left it on overnight and they don't taste very good. They seem slightly torched? But then I don't even know what I'm doing... 🤣 Oopths. #dehydrating

  17. Garlic harvest time: how to store?

We have a lot of hardneck garlic this year, and no root cellar yet. Last year the surplus bulbs were processed into dehydrated chips, which stored really well and are useful in wet dishes where a mouthful of garlic works. However it is a lot of prep and a lot of energy to dry even though we have a skookum dehydrator.

This year we are machine-mincing the surplus with olive oil and salt, freezing into pucks in muffin tins, then vacuum packing. This will use less energy (since we run a deep freeze anyway) and be a great product still in eight months.

  18. Picked more peppers today for dehydrating and chopped them all up with the other bucket full from last week.

Quicker chop job, just removed the bulk of the core and seeds and then sliced the red ones and put most of the yellow ones through the food processor slicer because I was getting tired of slicing peppers. The yellow ones have thinner skin too so less worry of too big of chunks.

Red Marconis and Sweet banana peppers.

  19. The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful.
And since we've no place to go...

...I'll be experimenting with putting up sugared #orange slices today!

    Wish me luck...
