Not so hot take: Trump's tariffs would be a lot like #brexit except that they can be quickly undone. But the immediate scale is going to be quite an economic shock, possibly even #deflationary. Ironically there could be long term benefits for the pain we are about to undergo, but reshoring manufacturing requires a labor force and our ignorant president is about to send them home.

#Tariffs can't even be used to fund anything, because #taxes don't fund anything. The purpose of taxes (other than driving behavior or fore use of the currency) is to cause #deflationary pressure by reducing the #money supply.
There's no reduction in the #MoneySupply, to do that you'd need to tax #exports!
Tariffs have their uses, specifically to level playing fields w/r to human rights, workers #rights, #environmental stewardship, etc...So, collecting #money (from a #foreign entity) and then putting that money into our #economy causes _double_ inflation in our economy and deflation in _their_ economy, strengthening their currency and capacity for government spending.

He's a petty #tyrant who is making an #empire of ash. He can't simultaneously succeed in becoming a #fascist #dictator and also destroying the #state.
