Knowing only enough about computers to manage to install Linux and use it as a daily-driver at home, I read de Raadt's quote. On that basis alone, I decided #OpenBSD was worth trying to switch to. Everything I've read since has confirmed my decision... Although I have yet to learn how to mount/unmount a USB flash drive successfully 🤣

    > Virtualization seems to have a lot of security benefits.

You've been smoking something really mind altering, and I think you
    should share it.

x86 virtualization is about basically placing another nearly full
kernel, full of new bugs, on top of a nasty x86 architecture which
barely has correct page protection. Then running your operating
system on the other side of this brand new pile of shit.

You are absolutely deluded, if not stupid, if you think that a
worldwide collection of software engineers who can't write operating
systems or applications without security holes, can then turn around
and suddenly write virtualization layers without security holes.

You've seen something on the shelf, and it has all sorts of pretty
    colours, and you've bought it.

    That's all x86 virtualization is.

  2. @david_chisnall Great point. I think this idea of migrating one's applications first and *then* the OS also applies to many hardware platforms. For example, degoogled android OS for mobile telephones. I've seen many people who tried to migrate OS first complain their apps didn't work, but those who had been gradually transitioning toward more privacy-respecting open-source apps before switching OS seemed to have a grand old time.

  3. @DanielMReck @readbeanicecream This is the way! We also hear there's a pretty sweet alternative (okay, there's a few but we're biased) for Outlook for people wanting to #defenestrate their professional and personal lives! ✉️ 💙

#Defenestrate is one of my favorite words, and I hardly ever get to use it.

  5. Welcome to everyone migrating from the #Discworld #MUD! A few hints:

#Talker channels are called "#timelines" (I know, right!)
#Guilds are kind of like #instances, but not really
There is strictly no #PlayerKilling (we're kinder here)

Some features that you're used to have been excluded by design, eg. people have been asking for the "#defenestrate" command. While it's useful sometimes, it's more often used to dunk on people. There are other ways to communicate.

I think that's everything. May the Great A'Tuin guide your toots!
