As Rolling Stone reported last year, the Stop Cop City movement is largely being led by a loose band of environmentalists and anarchists under the banner, Defend the #Atlanta Forest. Since Cop City was approved in 2021, many protesters have literally camped out in the South River Forest, aiming to disrupt and stop the construction of the facility by any means necessary.
In response, authorities mounted two raids on the protesters, in Dec. 2022 and Jan. 2023, which led to the arrest of dozens of protesters. Many were hit with terrorism charges, even though their arrest records showed they committed no specific crimes other than misdemeanor trespassing. During the Jan. 18 raid, the police also killed a protester, Manuel “Torguguita” Teran.

DeKalb County has now publicly released its initial autopsy for Tortuguita's murder. It states that NO GUNPOWDER RESIDUE WAS FOUND ON THEM!! Within an enclosed tent and according to how many shots the GBI claimed Tort fired first, it would have been IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT TO FIND RESIDUE. THIS WAS AN EXECUTION.
The GBI has not released any updates on their investigation since Tortuguita's murder. WE NOW KNOW FOR CERTAIN WHAT THEY ARE HIDING! We DEMAND answers NOW. The GBI is complicit in the cover-up of Tort's murder. We will never accept the "findings" of an agency that has been directly involved in the political persecution of protestors in the movement.

Of fucking course the body cam footage of police murdering #Tortuguita confirms that the injured officer was due to friendly fire.
They think we're stupid, they intentionally lied, pretended the body cam footage didn't exist, and didn't admit that the cops predictably shot each other.

Cops lie, NEVER take their press releases and statements as facts. Don’t forget that the police insisted they weren’t wearing body cameras. Just seconds after the police opened fire and murdered Tortugita, a forest defender, an Atlanta Police officer can be heard saying “Man...you fucked your own officer up” referring to the state trooper that was also shot. #StopCopCity #AtlantaForest #DefendAtlantaForest
