  1. Am I the only one that thinks that any MP defecting to another party in Westminster should be required to walk to the entrance and say "I am and always have been and always will be a traitor" before leaving and facing a byelection before they are allowed to return (if re-elected). If not, well, tough luck.

  2. The videos posted to Facebook all have the same look and feel: The subject looks directly at the camera, joins his hands in a sampeah – a #Cambodian gesture of respect – and apologizes.

Examples from last month – Cambodian #journalist Mech Dara and overseas #activist Hay Vanna – were just the latest additions to a long list of activists and #critics forced by #threats or legal action to recant and pledge their loyalty to the ruling #CambodianPeoplesParty (CPP).

Those are some of the most high-profile instances. Several other opposition activists told #RadioFreeAsia that they were forced to pledge allegiance to the ruling party to maintain the safety of their family or to avoid politically motivated criminal charges.

  3. A group of #NorthKoreanDefectors has resettled in #Canada through #PrivateSponsorship for the first time, a Canada-based #HumanRights org. announced Wednesday.

#HanVoice said that the #defectors arrived at #Toronto Pearson Airport, where they were greeted by #Canadian sponsor groups holding welcome signs.

While HanVoice did not disclose the identities or genders of the defectors, media reports suggest they are all women who fled #NorthKorea before the COVID-19 pandemic and had been staying in a Southeast Asian country.

Canada now joins the U.S. and South Korea as the third country to legally accept North Korean defectors for #resettlement.

HanVoice launched its private sponsorship program for North Korean defectors in Oct. 2021, focusing on women and children, whom they describe as “the most vulnerable population of defectors.”

“Canada is the only country to resettle North Korean #refugees using a private sponsorship model, a ‘made-in-Canada’ community-led approach that has been copied around the world,” HanVoice previously said.
