  1. Tara Tomlinson et al. Permeability and porosity of ice. At #LPSC2023.

Mushy zones in ice. How to nutrients and salts get formed and connected during ice Freetown?

(Y'all know I'm all into this for #astrobiology. This sets #microhabitats scale in #DeepIce.)

Modeled, and compared with lab grown sea ice.

    Abstract: hou.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2023

  2. And now my thoughts on why this is so neat. That clathrate layer insulates. Changes thermal profile through crust.

So now it's warmer more shallow. So there's MORE volume in the #DeepIce of #Titan that might be habitable.

Maybe don't need to drill so deep to get to good habitats?

Remember, much easier to land on Titan. We already 1 for 1 on that world!!!

Here is link to Lauren's abstract: hou.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2023

  3. Turns out a compressed gas cart is really handy for moving ice cores.

Kicked out of a downstairs lab freezer, I'm using the freight elevator in the Science building to move to another lab freezer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

One of these is a section of firn ice from GISP2.

What am I gonna do with these?
    Wait and see......

  4. Here is a 30-minute detailed presentation/short course on the astrobiology of icy microhabitats like we might find when we explore the Ocean Worlds (Europa, Enceladus, Titan, etc.)

This was part of a Keck Institute of Space Studies (KISS) workshop where we gathered some researchers to try to figure out the technical challenges of targeting microhabitats during planetary exploration.
