With this kind of issue, I've found that having the dedicated e-reader device (even an old one, whether Kindle or Kobo)) makes it much easier to #DeDRM things.

The Kobo, in particular, is effortless with #Calibre and the DeDRM plugin.

YES, if you go through the steps to #deDRM the kindle books first. That's what I did, then used #Calibre to convert and upload them straight to the #Kobo.

I've just updated and improved a few things on this today. Documentation, config options, more frugal downloads, improved metadata in NFO file, more robust downloads and completeness sanity checks.

It's still not a tool for vanilla end-users. But I'm OK with that.

There's a new way to liberate purchased Kindle books from Amazon's DRM.

A few points to note:

* Hardcoded to the .com store, but trivial to change to .co.uk
* Uses OCR - so some odd / annoying mistakes - especially around punctuation.
* Every line is wrapped in a `<p>` element - which breaks reflow.

But, other than that, remarkably capable. Once you've got your session token, it only takes a couple of minutes to get an ePub.

We're very fortunate that all Czech e-books are sold DRM-free. You can read them on any device without any hassle.

Unfortunately, as an owner of an old #Kindle I'm pretty much forced to buy English books on #Amazon. At least #Calibre / #DeDRM doesn't let me down and I can still read them on any device.

I promise I only use the books to train my LLM. And, unlike Meta, I actually purchased them.

Successfully loaded my entire #Kindle library from my #PaperWhite onto my computer using #Calibre, #DeDRM, and the #KFXImport plugins.

I am a happy nerd!!

Now I just have to figure out how to DeDRM my old Nook books.

Ok I just downloaded all my Amazon ebooks, but I selected my Kindle HD8 as the device... now I'm seeing that maybe there's no way to get the key off the device? was this a waste of time? #amazon #dedrm #nodrm

Managed to #DeDRM nearly all our #Kindle books.

I used #Calibre + the DeDRM plugin method (see the link below for more details).

Try to use the Calibre Flatpak or download the official binary from their website. The one packaged for #debian bookworm is missing a python package that is an essential dependency for the plugin.

Finally downloaded my whole #Kindle library, imported it into #Calibre and converted them all to #EPUB with #DeDRM

That took me a while. But now it's done. Luckily, I still have a registered Kindle somewhere 😂 Not even sure where or if it's still functional. But it was registered in 2011 and is still connected to my account. Well, goodbye #Amazon — I won't miss you at all.
