  1. PS: the #federal Parks Services has a page recognizing the South Carolina event as the first #MemorialDay, aka #DecorationDay

❝ …one of the earliest recorded observations of the holiday indisputably took place in Charleston, South Carolina, in the closing days of the Civil War… On May 1, 1865, the freed people of Charleston gathered at the old racetrack to decorate the graves of 257 Union prisoners of war who had been hastily buried by the retreating Confederate army.

  2. So y'all are going off to celebrate the war dead this #MemorialDay, huh.
We know what war dead our NeoConfederates are going to be celebrating #DecorationDay, though, don't we.
That would be carved-in-stone date of May 30th even though Memorial Day is a floating Monday holiday...but...what else there is to know about the date of May 30th is that it's one day before the day the first slave ships arrived in Louisiana.
I propose we celebrate the slave trade dead while we're at it.

  3. Today is #DecorationDay in Canada.
The day was created on June 2, 1890 as a protest for veterans of the Battle of Ridgeway during the Fenian Raids of the 1860s.
By 1892, it was an annual event to recognize Canada's veterans.
The day has mostly been eclipsed by Remembrance Day.

Who cares what they do in Liberia?
The United Daughters of the #Confederacy *still* celebrate #DecorationDay (not #MemorialDay) in the USA 🇺🇸! 👉 encyclopediavirginia.org/entri

#ConfederateZombies 🧟‍♀️ are no different than #SovietZombies 🧟‍♂️, and who wants to have any association with them?!

  5. @SrRochardBunson #DecorationDay is associated with remembering ancestors who died during the #CivilWar , particularly while fighting - treasonously - for the #Confederacy. No bueno!

I agree with the general idea, and the #DayOfTheDead (or #AllSoulsDay ) has the same purpose, and would give #Halloween more purpose (actually, its original purpose).
