I found some really nice online Workshops at Domestika, but I totaly dislike their use of deceptive patterns such as fake fomo countdowns.

They propably think potential customers dont notice the manipulation - I think they do and like me they dont like it. Will not buy a course for now.

I am disappointed with the #DeceptivePatterns which subscription based businesses often use. Just got off the phone with #VirginMobile where I cancelled my Internet in May. Least I thought I did...

Forcing users to start or cancel contracts over the phone puts all the power with the vendor. I have no record of what they do, or what records they keep (or fail to).

Without a clear paper trail, I cannot track the wasted hours spent trying to cancel a service I no longer am using.

Regulators need to step up.

They already try to ensure fairness and safety with weights and measures, food additives, financial instruments, building standards, transportation safety, etc.

Why not ensure fairness by regulating against misleading and deceptive design patterns online?

Why not protect individual customers from harm that flows from a corporation's tech choices?

It would be nice if an email provider wouldn't only mark domains as possible spam origins, but also less bad things, so instead of having only the options "really bad" and "somewhat okay", we'd have a rating that would include bad ratings for not respecting #privacy, including #clickbait, or using other #deceptivePatterns.
