There are at least half a dozen less adopted #DecentSocial protocols that also don’t do AP interop.

From the little I listened to of the Americas track of #DecentSocial it seemed pretty boring. These days life is so bleak that my give-a-shit threshold for the concerns of overprivileged Silicon Valley dudes is super low. It would have been more interesting to hear from people in south America. Is fedi in use in Brasil or Chile or Peru?

I guess that I missed the #DecentSocial thing. Had other more urgent stuff to deal with.
The fediverse seems to be doing ok. I don't think it's in danger of corporate takeover. If Google shows up with a gmail-like instance I would just block it and then not need to care about it. "Governance" I think is doing ok. Keep it small scale and keep your instance active user numbers managable. Reject heirarchical bureacracies even if they appear to align with your politics. That alignment will vanish the moment they have some power over you. DIDs I don't think are a good idea, and I don't foresee myself implementing them. They're too integrated with cryptobro/web3 crap, and I am not interested in your fedicoin ICO.
Lack of standardisation is the achilles heel. Standardisation efforts appear to have ended in 2018, and not resumed. Social tech is always messy though, so rough consensus plus running code are always the order of the day. Object capabilities may be a good idea, but it needs to be standardised. I've implemented importable blocklists in #Epicyon recently, and overly casual use of blocklists may be a longer term problem, although they undoubtedly also have a role to play in resisting corporate encroachment. -
