Caught this video on the weekend and thought 'Hmmm, he's right. 1978 was an awesome year for debut albums.'
So got Plex to build me a tuned playlist of the 'better' music from that year. Can't figure out how to filter for 'debut album though'. I am enjoying my way through a typical grunty Monday.
Sadly, I don't have the budget or space to have it all on vinyl, but I do what I can :)

Salt-N-Pepa released their debut album, “Hot, Cool & Vicious”
One of the first albums to be released by an all-female rap group, this album has several definitive hits, including the unforgettable hit "Push It". My parents got the single the following year! Pretty rare occurrence, as they were more classic rock fans. But Push It was just that big of a hit back then.
The album includes a couple other hits, "My Mic Sounds Nice" and "I'll Take Your Man”. But other than these, it’s a pretty basic album, even by mid-80’s standards.
I’ve always enjoyed Salt-N-Pepa’s sassy, fun, lighthearted “bad girl” attitude. This album is like a female version of “Licensed To Ill”. Good beats, interesting samples, and tons of attitude.

Lōc-ed After Dark
It went double-platinum; two singles from it were ubiquitous. It hit No.1 on the Billboard album charts – in an era when such a position was almost unheard of for a hip-hop artist. A true overnight sensation.
I remember even my parents listening to “Wild Thing” with their friends during a get together at our house.
Simple lyrics, funky beats, and perfect use of samples.
