This is the day. I will be moving my trusty steed over to debian 13 (hopefully all the major real-world bugs have been ironed out).
So far, things are going great. Hard to believe this system started on debian 7, and dist-upgrade is all I have done. This last bump might be tough though. I have been switching DEs a lot so there are a lot of warnings about files that don't exist ... fingers crossed.

#Tuxedo switches for #TuxedoOS from #Ubuntu to #Debian. Similar reasons why I swtiched from #Xubuntu to #DebianStable:
https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/A-new-foundation-for-TUXEDO-OS-Switching-to-Debian.tuxedoUnfortunately, Tuxedo chose the IMO most problematic Debian flavor: #DebianTesting.
@gnulinux asked Tuxedo how they are going to handle the #security issues because of delayed or missing security patches:
https://gnulinux.ch/tuxedo-os-wechselt-auf-debian-testing-und-beantwortet-die-si (German)In short: Tuxedo is monitoring security patches released by others and maybe chooses to publish the corresponding unstable package in their repository if necessary.
However, this means that they add manual effort by Tuxedo as well as a delay to the overall process so that users of TuxedoOS get patches not as fast as with Ubuntu or Debian stable/unstable.
Let's see how that goes.

With #TuxedoOS switching to a #DebianTesting base, I'm switching to #DebianStable with @kde . Reasons:
- #Debian says, "If you want to have a secure (and stable) server you are strongly encouraged to stay with stable." https://www.debian.org/security/faq#testing
- downstream distros are often delayed in patching/upgrades
- other upstream distros are corporately-driven, US-based, or both
- I stick with beginner-friendly distros to make supporting friends/family with their installs easier
- I love #KDE -

Über Windows Client habe ich viel durch Behebung der andauernden Probleme gelernt. Bezüglich Linux auf dem Client lerne ich da kaum was, merkwürdig 😉😆

1/ So I have been asked a few of times now about why I run "ancient" software on my Debian 13. Why don't I just 'flatpak' it ?
My criteria are:
- What do I want to accomplish with this tool (software) ?
- Is the stable battle-tested version of this tool (which is why you'd use Debian stable <3) able to do what needs to be done?
The first question is about organising and introspection, the second is a binary choice.

Wow, I wrote in to the #Debian backports mailing list asking about a backport of a more recent version of #darktable to #Trixie, and now a week later it has arrived 😁
Any #photographer running #DebianStable and using @darktable you can now upgrade to 5.4.1! I was using the #appimage since my database was from a newer version than the one in stable, but now I can be back on Debian native packages 👌

@rangek As you know, "Stable" does not mean "doesn't crash," it means "doesn't change often."

I've finally cut over from #Manjaro to #Debian Trixie on my desktop PC. The constant updates and frequent long-running compilations for the AUR packages I had really started getting on my nerves, and the Manjaro project seems to be on unsteady ground these days.
Since I'm running Debian or its device-specific derivatives on my servers and #raspberrypi s, I've gotten comfortable with it and am ready for a stable desktop.
felt good blowing away my #Windows partition too

@vitex @thomholwerda i use #debianstable on my old/refurbished ThinkPad, with #gnome , #libreoffice and #mozilla . I never had any issues with Wayland. It's a fine OS for people that don't bother about the brand new stuff.

@bmzimmermann at home? No, I don't really do a cleaninstall.
I have several virtual machines, separated by tasks, itsec or privacy, which I set up again, but the host machine just keeps running.
with #debianstable as host and various #linuxdistro as guests

I'm trying a kernel from Debian Backports to see if it makes a difference in my occasional freezes when the screensaver is active. I'm not sure if the problem is with suspend or screen saver.
This worked for me in solving a different issue in the early Bullseye days (and eventually I was able to return to the stable kernel). Maybe it'll help now.

@13reak @artfulrobot This kind of toot always makes me wonder, if I shoud once try another distro, #fedora for example. Or go for #debianSid.
But I am just an amateur linux user, and #DebianStable does all I need... -

Update my first machine from #debian #bullseye to #bookworm.
How booring was that!
Big thanks to all debian developer!
For a moment, I was tempted to switch to #debiansid. But then again, #debianstable is perfect for my needs.Aktualisierte das erste Gerät von #debian #bullseye auf #bookworm.
Echt langweilig.
Grosses Dankeschön an alle Debian Entwickler!
Für einen Moment war ich versucht, gleich auf #debiansid zu wechseln. Doch eigentlich passt #debianstable genau für meine Bedürfnisse. -
