Ich habe einige Hosts upgegradet von #Debian12 auf 13 #Trixie. Dabei stießen mir folgende Dinge auf:

- Selbstgeschriebene Skripte und Jobs liefen nicht mehr, weil sie nicht mehr auf bestimmte Verzeichnisse zugreifen konnten. Hintergrund war, das #systemd die Berechtigungen eingeschränkt hat. Diese Einschränkungen mussten manuell im Service File wieder gefixt werden.

- Cronjobs wurden ersetzt durch systemd timer, was dazu führte, dass angepasste Cronjobs plötzlich nicht mehr liefen bzw. doppelt liefen. Um das vorherige Verhalten wieder herzustellen ist es nötig, die systemd Timer manuell zu löschen.

- Es gibt zahlreiche Fehlermeldungen nach dem Upgrade, die darauf zurückzuführen sind, dass systemd Automatismen und Defaults eingeführt hat, die auf meinen Hosts sinnfrei sind. (cont.)

Та ж сама гра на Дебіані: температура CPU 53°, GPU 43°, вентилятора не чуть.

Один з викликів при переносі системи з Kubuntu на Debian було переннсення віртуальної машини. От ніколи б не здогадався, що вона має свій завантажувач (хоча це цілком очевидно) і що він теж може поламатися (в це вже зовсім не очевидно). Гадаю, це пов'язано з тим, що файл ВМ лежить на внутрішньому диску лаптопа, на якому NTFS.
Але вже все працює.

Завантаження з зовнішньог диску має свої вади.
Найбільша: поспішив витягти диск після вимкнення компа і привіт live-USB: відновлюємо дані і завантажувач.

Три місяці експерименту з користування двома ОС у квазі-дуалбуті: Windows 11 на внутрішньому диску, Kubuntu на зовнішньому sata SSD, що підключени через USB 3.1 gen.1.
Висновок:
+ Обидві системи не знають про своїх сусідок. Бо завантажувач Linux теж знаходиться на тому ж SSD;
- Завантаження через меню по F12. Проґавиш момент - завантажується Windows.
PS Canonical звернули не туди. Зараз переводжу цей проєкт на Debian 12 KDE.

TIL: to get #PostFix to work correctly with #IONOS without paying for the commercial System Admin module you *must* install

or else the emails get knocked back with message "no worthy mechs found" which sounds like some kind of robot battle 😁 🤖

also added a swapfile (VPS doesn't have one normally), knocked off the commercial modules (which I don't use) and managed to get a couple of eztensions and routes working (after some false starts as I'm using an unusual config linking to another virtual #pbx)

I finally got #Debian 12.0.1 i386 DVD version to install on this HP Stream 7 tablet - But it was a struggle and took a while.
Now I have a mostly usable system on it, but I'm not sure what I'll use the tablet for. LOL.

With my latest hardware upgrade to 27" 4K TFTs, it's almost impossible for me to use the new TFTs. Everything is tiny small. X11 doesn't have the advanced scaling options I've got with KDE on Wayland.

Well, let's see if I can do it this weekend ...

If anyone is still running #debian12 on a machine with software RAID, be advised about a problem with upgrading to #debian13 – yesterday it made my home server unbootable and I found the reason to be grub not detecting my RAID1 metadevice. A workaround is described here: https://gist.github.com/yorickdowne/3cecc7b424ce241b173510e36754af47 (thanks, Yorick!); fixing my server involved booting from USB and doing apt install --reinstall mdadm while chrooted to my original root FS.

in debian 13, pipewire is the default audio subsystem. if you upgrade from debian 12 it will not automatically install pipewire. this can be a problem, as openal-soft expects to use pipewire and will show some very unintuitive errors that say something like "pw.conf: can't load config client.conf: no such file or directory"

the fix is to install the pipewire-audio package, which will replace pulseaudio

At the IT club upgrading a couple of PCs from #Debian12 to #Debian13. So far rather dull and tedious. Spinning rust is so slow once you're used to SSDs...

can anyone tell me how to teach my system that a user other than that one controlling the #wayland environment is allowed to control network connections via #networkmanager (nmcli console command, for VPN purposes)? This was possible under #debian12, but now it requires password confirmation from both(!) users 😕 #linux #debian

I made an upgrade from #debian12 to #debian13 on all my devices: desktop computer, laptop, VPS.

Everything went smooth with #debian upgrade as usual :ablobcatcoffee:

The only thing wrong was upgrade to #plasma6 for which #KDE switched from #X11 to #wayland and I was dumb enough to decide to give it another chance (my previous tries of Wayland were just failures)
So it's still not good. It's really quite better than months ago but there's application that can't work anymore, like #ksnip :ablobcatknitsweats:

Also #virtualbox doesn't work anymore too (looks like screen size detected is 0x0 and then crash at starting a VM); I'll probably have to switch to #KVM or something else, not sure.
