#DeathValley sees its most spectacular #superbloom in a decade
The #wildflowers have painted the usually barren landscape of #DeathValleyNationalPark — one of the hottest and driest places in the country — in pretty pink, purple and yellow.

By Denise ChowExcerpt: " 'You can think of it like drought evasion,' said Erik Rakestraw, a curator of botany at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson. 'In their seed form, it’s like they’re not even existing. They’re just laying in the soil.'
"In the proper conditions, the seeds will germinate. Then, after the flowers are pollinated, they’ll turn back to seeds and the cycle will begin again."

LOL this could very well trap people in Death Valley, unless they filled up with gas this evening. Or end up with people stranded on the side of the road. (I nearly did this, myself, due to a dust storm shutting down the pumps in that case).

Looks like it's not easy to get to Scotty's Castle in Death Valley National Park right now (though, I believe it's still closed due to flood damage from the last few years). Taking Racetrack Valley Road is its own adventure (4wd... high clearance).

Saw an article about an old plane wreck in Death Valley National Park (CIA plane, the Albatross), so had to geolocate it. Strangely, not easily found on the Internet with a general search. (If you are going to hike there, don't do so in the middle of summer).
