One of our moderators in the second data collection campaign of @dgskorpusprojekt just won a gold medal at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo! And so did a former student assistant of ours! Was chatting to one of my kids tonight about #BSL…they were encouraging me to practice!
Then they mentioned a Paralympic’s video from 2016 which they like called ‘Yes I can!’. There is a small section where someone signs.
This got us wondering if I hadn’t left it too late to start my Paralympic career?! But then we discovered you can’t enter the Paralympics if you are just #Deaf…but there is a separate #Deaflympics!

#Gehörlose / #hörbehinderte Sportler*innen wurden nie zu den Paralympischen Spielen zugelassen. Taubheit wird im Vergleich zum Verlust von Gliedmaßen oder Blindheit als ein geringeres Hindernis bei der Ausübung von Sport angesehen.

Ukraine won its first-ever medal count at the Winter Deaflympics. The Ukrainian team of athletes with hearing impairments achieved a record-breaking 19 medals: 10 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze. This result allowed Ukraine to finish first in the overall medal standings. President of Ukraine personally congratulated the team.
