Ask someone their communication preference
Get their attention
Speak clearly
Face the person
Make sure your face is well lit
Reduce background noise
Use gestures
Write things down
And most of all don’t say I’ll tell you later or it doesn’t matter

I had such a lovely time at the Deaf Cultural Festival at Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City this morning. It made me happy to see so many people signing in one place. I can have simple, casual conversations but I’m not fluent. YET. As my gamer son always says, I am “filled with determination”. #ASL #DeafAwarenessWeek #InternationalWeekoftheDeaf
